I know Ozzie was here in '03 so maybe he and Loria have a special relationship, otherwise, I don't see how the outspoken Ozzie would fit in here with a meddling owner like Loria.

Look at the statistics. One of the, if not the fastest growing ethnic group in Miami. Those arriving are from the middle and upper classes in Venezuela. They are settling in Doral and SW Miami-Dade.

This is exactly what happened in the late 50s and early 60s in Miami with Cubans. First, the middle class and rich fled as the Batista government began to show cracks and finally fell to La Revolucion. These wealthy and middle class families settled in Coral Gables and Westchester.

I would argue that Venezuelans arriving now are better off than the wealthy Cubans in the 60s. As things continue to worsen in Venezuela you will see the equivalent of those who came and settled in Little Havana and Hialeah in the late sixties and early seventies begin to take residence in Miami.

I don't know if he has, but either way, they've never had a player-manager relationship.

If Hanley has a problem (like he's had the past couple of years) and Ozzie is managing the team, Ozzie isn't going to do a Fredi/McKeon and keep it in the clubhouse. He'll say the word fuck 20 times and complain about Hanley's work ethic, etc.

Not to mention that I'm really not even a fan of the way he manages. I'm not sure if he should receive all the blame for it, but his team has been terribly inefficient on the bases this year. He still believes in leading off with Juan Pierre, which is a horrible idea at this point in Pierre's career. His second hitter is Omar Vizquel (probably because he's a fan of sac bunts in any situation).

He's entertaining especially for people who are watching baseball for the first time or something, but he seems like the type of manager who would piss some people (like us) off with his moves.

all those three things add up to the mid-late 70s Yankees and Steinbrenner/Billy Martin, yet Billy still led them to 2 pennants, a World Series, and a .591 winning percentage.

I think Loria is completely aware of Ozzie and his antics when it comes to speaking to the media so don't you think if that were an issue he wouldn't be rumored to be wanting him for the job next season?

Well you're assuming those rumors are coming from the Marlins FO, and not a few clever journalists who linked a Hispanic manager with a Hispanic community.

And even if those rumors were true, that doesn't mean Loria would put up with Ozzie's antics.
