I would to, but it's just how the broadcaster said it. He made it seem that Guillen would bring him in (Like coaches bring in their pitching coaches, ect) and then gave no reason why or why the Marlins would want him or anything.

Whatever Rosenthal may say, bringing in Jack is the perfect bridge for however the big name manager is next season. Had the team put up a decent record between now and the end of the season, the Marlins would look bad firing that manager. At least with Jack you know there will be no next year.

If Ozzie wants go be closer to his family, he should come home. It would be a major get from a PR perspective. Because he is Latin and most importantly Venezuelan--a rapidly expanding community is South Fla.

We still wouldn't get any big Latin American free agents, because they all hate Miami

That's why they all live down here in the offseason.

The faceplain was about my post and Emperor's stupidity. I agree with you.

I've never bought into this. Did Fredi or Edwin coming here get more bodies into the seats?

Neither of them compare to Ozzie. A lot of the Hispanic baseball community knows of Ozzie despite him not being here in Miami. Same can't be said for when Fredi or Edwin came.

This statement does not make me buy into it either.

Baseball people know who Fredi is,

Baseball people know who Ozzie is.

Non-baseball people don't know who either is.

I'd be willing to bet that Ozzie would get the attention of those "non-baseball people" if he ultimately came down here. Edwin and Fredi were the type of guys that would catch people's attention when they spoke.

I don't think anything but the product on the field will catch anyone's attention.

It might not be the move to get people in the seats but it's a move in the direction of making a fan base that loves the "big name" feel good about the team.

It's not going to put butts in the seats but it will build goodwill and interest. It is a small piece in an overall effort to build a consistent fanbase. The proportion of Hispanics fans is larger than the proportion of the total population. This will only grow when we move to Little Havana.

Venezuelans have only recently come to Miami. There is no allegiance to the city's sports teams like there is amongst Cubans. Venezuelans are the new Cubans and they will play a larger role in the shaping of Miami over the new couple decades. Now is the time to start building some interest and allegiances.
