As it turns out: Chris Coghlan on DL, not headed to minors. In aftermath of decision to send him to minors,he informed team of a knee issue.
I was wondering why he hadn't been in any AAA games.

Braves claimed LHP Dustin Richardson off waivers from the Marlins.
Not a bad gamble by Atlanta. Richardson has suffered from control issues but is just 26 and has struck out over 10.0 per nine innings in his minor league career. He'll report to Triple-A Gwinnett.

NEW YORK -- A tough season for Chris Coghlan continues to deteriorate. The latest setback: Coghlan was recalled from his minor-league rehabilitation assignment to receive further treatment for his injured left knee.

“The knee stiffened up a bit, and we want to back him off and get it completely healthy,” said Larry Beinfest, the Marlins’ president of baseball operations.

Coghlan, who has been on the disabled list since June 17 with inflammation in his left knee, had gone 4 for19 in five games for Double A Jacksonville before the decision was made to send him back to South Florida.

Coghlan injured the knee last season when he smacked Wes Helms in the face with a shaving-cream pie to celebrate a walk-off win. He underwent surgery last August but has struggled to recapture the form that led him to be named the National League Rookie of the Year in 2009.

He hit just .230 this season — and only .107 against left-handed pitching — in 65 games before he landed on the disabled list. In addition to his knee problem, Coghlan also was bothered by a sore throwing (right) shoulder throughout spring training and into the season.

After trading Cameron Maybin to the San Diego Padres last November, the Marlins shifted Coghlan from left field to center. The Marlins have started six different players in center this season.
