  • Rumor: Marlins After Wilson Betemit

Quick, guess which player ranks third in OPS among AL third baseman, behind only Kevin Youkilis and Alex Rodriguez.

Why, it’s Wilson Betemit, of course!

No team but the Royals offered Betemit even a minor-league contract after the White Sox declined to re-sign him as a free agent in 2009.

But here’s Betemit, 29, batting .311/.377/.437, transforming himself into either part of the Royals’ future or a valuable trade chip.

The Marlins are among the teams tracking Betemit, whose position is threatened by top prospect Mike Moustakas.

The Royals, though, don’t necessarily need to trade Betemit, a switch-hitter who would offer the team versatility and protection against injury in the future.

As one club official puts it, “It’s hard to win championships without guys like Wilson Betemit.”

    He, however, is not Amezaga
God would be expecting a first pitch breaking ball in the dirt because humans love to disappoint him.

This would ease the pain of the Hanley/JJ situation a lot.

I would be a fan of getting him if we give up Wes Helms.

Yeah if his roster spot means no more Helms, awesome.

He wasn't bad with LA or the Yankees, but he wasn't great either. I guess I'm OK with it.

The chances of this are slim and none

I fear they will want a lot, like Chad James a lot, because a few teams are going to want him.

I see what you did there.

Also, his first name is a last name.

Anyone whose last name is Wilson, is an asshole. Everyone knows that.

Interesting option, but I will reserve judgment until what KC wants is known and what's going on with JJ/Hanley.
