JUPITER, Fla. -- There is growing optimism that Chris Coghlan and Mike Stanton will be ready for the start of the regular season.
Coghlan (sore right shoulder) and Stanton (right quadriceps strain) each played the outfield on Tuesday in a Minor League game.
It was Stanton's first game in right field since he suffered a leg injury in a Feb. 27 scrimmage against the University of Miami.
Manager Edwin Rodriguez said that barring any setbacks, the two outfielders could be playing on Thursday against the Red Sox at Roger Dean Stadium.
The Marlins have yet to play a Grapefruit League game with their projected starting outfield on the field together.
Coghlan is switching to center field, making room for Logan Morrison, after he played left field in his first two big league seasons. He missed most of the second half of 2010 with a torn meniscus in his left knee. Earlier in camp, Coghlan experienced shoulder soreness.
The Marlins open against the Mets on April 1 at Sun Life Stadium. The team projects to have Morrison in left field, Coghlan in center and Stanton in right.
"I think both will be ready for Opening Day," Rodriguez said.
