  • Marlins Sign C John Buck to 3 Year Deal

    3 year, 18 million?

    tweet tweet

    UPDATE @ 6:29 PM:

The Marlins signed free-agent catcher John Buck to a three-year deal, according to a baseball source.

Terms were undisclosed. The Marlins did not confirm the deal, and Buck's agent, Sam Levinson, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Buck is coming off a breakout year in his first season with the Blue Jays, one that saw him make the American League All-Star team for the second straight time and set career highs in batting average (.281), on-base percentage (.314), homers (20) and RBIs (66). While starting 104 games behind the plate, the 30-year-old threw out 28 percent of would-be basestealers.

He did really good on the road last year. He played better than at home, so the Skydome was not an issue for his incline in offense.

I wonder if this is showing they're going to trade Uggla for sure now (using money that would've gone to him on other pieces).

EDIT: I guess so, Dan's gone.

I like it, Buck is a damn good C with pop.

So for half the money Uggla turned down we've got a C, a 3B and a LHRP. Not done yet kids!

They needed to do something at the C position with Baker's status unsure. It could have been Pierzynski.

Pierzynski was apparently out of their price range from reports I read - this deal makes me wonder what his price range was?
