  • Dunn is really cool, and if he's acquired then they don't need to go out and find a LOOGY. The bullpen would be pretty much set and they could devote their time/money to finding a CF and a SP, since Infante would be filling the infield spot that Cogs/Bonifacio (whichever one isn't playing CF) doesn't fill.

    • the more I think about this deal and how it sures up the bullpen and (looks like) it gets us a leadoff hitter, the more I like it

      I think...

      • I'd be really worried about CF. I would feel better if we really used the money on a SP.

          • I'm not a huge fan of Cousins/Bonifacio in CF, but if the money that would go to a CF is all devoted to a SP then I think I'm okay with that. I suppose they could just give Cousins/Bonerface/whoever a shot in CF and if they suck pick up someone at the deadline.

It would be pretty awesome if they dealt Uggla now and picked up Cody as a rental at the deadline.

            • The Braves "appear to be very close to nearing a deal" for Marlins second baseman Dan Uggla, tweets MLB.com's Mark Bowman. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweeted minutes ago that the division rivals are discussing a deal that would send Uggla to Atlanta for utility man Omar Infante and lefty reliever Mike Dunn.

Infante, a super-utility type, hit .321/.359/.416 in 506 plate appearances for the Braves this year. He's under contract through 2011. Dunn, 26 in May, is a hard-throwing left-handed reliever who came to Atlanta from the Yankees a year ago in the Javier Vazquez deal. Dunn racked up big-time strikeout and walk numbers this year between Triple-A and the Majors. The intra-division asking price for Uggla was said to be large, but this return would be OK at best.

                      • It will be funny if we spend like 35 million on a SP, C and CFer (im somewhat optimistic about this, at least in terms of total contract value) in the offseason and add a bunch of quality relievers and people bitch about "the marlins selling off all of their players again".

Cuz Infante can't hear you that well from the infield right?

                              • We are trading one of the best second basemen in the league for a reliever and a super utility guy--- in our own division!
