That's all well and good but I really, REALLY have a hard time seeing Ozzie as Beinfest's and Samson's puppet. Can you imagine the stuff Ozzie would have said about the bullpen and bench Fredi and Edwin have had to deal with this year? He would never keep his mouth shut and do what the front office tells him which would not gel with the current front office philosophy.

Personally that's why I can't see Bobby V coming here or anyone with any kind of stature. Maybe there will be a shakeup in the FO as well ? Loria did expect to be in the playoffs last year, and we fell just a tiny-weeny-itty-bitty short on that account.

I agree. The article I posted even said in there that Samson and others in the front office are against bringing in Bobby Valentine because he wants more input on the personnel moves than the front office is willing to give him.

Loria wants a "name" but all the "name" guys are going to want to have their say in personnel moves. The front office wants a "puppet" manager who will just deal with the personnel that they give him and keep his mouth shut. It will be interesting to see who wins.

I hope he's not a serious candidate - I'm sure he's a nice guy, but he wasn't a very good 3rd base coach I thought (Joe Espada on the other hand, was really good this year), so I don't know if one can expect much better as manager.

ESPN analyst Bobby Valentine confirmed Wednesday that he has taken himself out of consideration for the Marlins managing job for 2011. Valentine had substantive talks with the Marlins about their managing job after they fired Fredi Gonzalez in June, but no deal was reached, and the Marlins named Edwin Rodriguez as interim manager for the rest of the season.

Valentine said he has had constant contact with the Marlins about the managing job since the end of the season, but Valentine said he decided to go in another direction.
