Oh Man! Marlins trade VandenHurk to O's for RP Will Ohman
Currently there is a 4 man rotation and 4 other starters in the minors on the 40 man roster. They are Miller (Sucks), Sanabia, West, and Tucker (Sucks). Most likely one of those starters will be called up soon (West) and you leave yourself with one option incase of an injury.
RVH may not have been good but he was completely screwed over by the organization when he was first called up. He has good stuff and has power reliever written all over him. He had a purpose in the organization now as starting pitching depth and next year when you throw him as competition for the rotation (so Volstad just doesn't get handed a spot) and you just stick him in the bullpen otherwise and give him a month and a half to 2 months to see if he sticks there. The guy had some value to the organization and a lot more than the Ohman does.

C'mon, this is kind of a reach. Depth for depth's sake, without any regard to quality, is kinda silly.
Well they are not on the 40 man so space may need to be made if they were to be called up.
Villanueva is suppose to be a control finesse pitcher. They tend not to succeed in the majors despite success at lower levels in the minors. So think Graham Taylor last year.
Personally I'd rather see Mastny added and see if he can finally find success at the majors, if we're messing with the 40 man.

RVH isn't a slouch. This isn't a minor league filler we're talking about this is a guy who was rushed and wasn't developed properly. The issues he's had are control and stamina. He's pitched 2 complete games more than he had in his career. Still only averaging 5 innings per start. He hasn't been consistent this year with horrible April and June and great May and July.
This isn't that I think RVH is awesome. I think he can be a serviceable MLB arm. It's because he was traded for a loogy when we already have a better one and we DFA NRob less than 2 weeks ago when he would have the same impact as Ohman.

Beef, your poem was very good until the "let's stop" part.
I'd edit it to say something like:
Ohman is a Major Leaguer, serviceable I would say.
Vandenhurk is not a Major Leaguer, perhaps serviceable someday.
This whole argument should just go away.
WILL OHMAN MAKES HIS ARRIVAL...Ohman was off and running on his first day with the Marlins (and the media). The lefty reliever is a regular clubhouse comic, and told reporters Sunday that his role would "be the same as everywhere else. I'm going to come in and face the best left-handed hitter on their team with guys on and no chance for glory and you guys are going to villify me right after I tank it. I'm going to face (the Padres') Adrian Gonzalez, and if I do my job, nobody knows it. And if I tank it, you guys will rip me." Check out this video of Ohman doing his Harry Caray impersonation.

See, here's the thing. The fact that he wasn't developed properly is irrelevant at this point. It's the equivalent of a sunk cost in business. Completely irrelevant for decision-making going forward. He is what he is, and at 25, it's going to be very difficult to get him "back on track" before he's just past his prime. He's had a very pedestrian year in AAA. He has always had a sexy K/9, but unfortunately it just hasn't translated into results. Maybe he'll figure it out in Baltimore, but probably not.
