DJ could be our lefty. He might get a September call up. He's 3-1 with a 2. 61 ERA. 25 BB/39 K in 43.1 IP.
Not a bad idea though, something to think about.
Callings up Jennings is a bad idea because
1) He still has things to work on in the minors, like control.
2) 40 man roster space.
We will need that space on the 40 man roster for the likes of Marinez, O.Martinez, Morrison, Caminero and players will get in exchange for whoever we trade this season or in the off-season.
Ty Wigginton is key to this all. Cheap utility guy who is a leader and will keep his mouth shut about where he plays. The 5 teams that want him-Phillies, Twins, Rockies, Yankees,Red Sox. Whoever gets him will be set however there is still 4 teams who need a 2B/3B bat. Whatever teams do not get him will be calling to see what Uggla and Cantu will cost. Cantu will be a Type B FA(If we offer arby)
The Yankees are also be looking at Cody Ross as a 4th OF(Seems like a better option than Chad Huffman)
Robertson will go somewhere for a mid level prospect and a DSL guy much like the Lindstrom deal
Minnesota could be a spot if Helms is dealt. They are looking for a 3B however gotten think he is Plan W
LOS ANGELES — Never mind the 39-43 record they took into Tuesday's game. The Marlins believe they have a chance to get back into the division race.
Whether the front office feels the same way remains to be seen. Already there are rumblings within the organization that the Marlins may break up the roster by the July 31 nonwaiver trading deadline.
"We're definitely in it. We're 100 percent in it. We're only 8 1/2 games back. Were only halfway through the season,' veteran Wes Helms said.
"The 31st is coming up. It's not far off. I would hope that the front office sees that we're still in it and did something to help us more than getting rid of guys and thinking we're out of it.'
The players know they can't fall any further back in the standings going into the All-Star break.
They also know they can make a statement to the front office by winning their series in Los Angeles and sweeping their four-game series that starts Thursday in Arizona against the struggling Diamondbacks.
But if they struggle over their final six games, key players such as Dan Uggla, Jorge Cantu and Cody Ross could be traded after the All-Star break.
"Whatever they feel like doing, it's up to them. Obviously we'd like to finish the season with this team and keep improving,' said Cantu, a free agent after this year.
"On the other hand I think we need to step it up and keep winning, and whatever happens next is going to happen next.'
The feeling is that only Florida's two All Stars - pitcher Josh Johnson and shortstop Hanley Ramirez - are considered off-limits in any trade talks. The team also would likely keep all of their young players still under club control.
Cantu ($6 million), Ross ($4.45 million) and Uggla ($7.8 million) represent more than $18 million in contracts. Ross and Uggla each have one more year of arbitration.
Pitchers Ricky Nolasco and Nate Robertson also could be traded.
But as of now, there's no indication the Marlins are actively shopping any of their players yet.
If players are dealt, expect the Marlins to stick to their pattern of seeking young prospects in return.
Marlins Baseball Operations President Larry Beinfest "is probably one of the best in baseball at reinventing the club, as many times as they've done it, and at evaluating talent. So whatever they decide to do I think the Florida Marlins will be back competing again next year,' said former player Harold Reynolds, an analyst with MLB Network.
Reynolds said he has no strong hunch on whether or not the Marlins will keep their roster intact. But he also doesn't see them making a serious run.
"They're very talented. I just think it's a team that was overrated. I never looked at them and said, 'Hey, this team is gonna win the division and they're gonna be a playoff club.' I never looked at it that way in pre-season and I don't look at it that way now. I think the front office overshot it right there,' Reynolds said.
"I still think they're a year or two away from really being a club that can explode on the scene that like. I think the expectations were placed way too high and I also think that cost Fredi (Gonzalez) his job as well.'
Johnson, who starts Wednesday in Los Angeles, said players only need to focus on winning games.
"If we can win this series and win the next series, that can be huge for us going into the second half, coming back and being confident and knowing we're just one winning streak away from being right here," he said.
With the quality young talents beinfest has been getting in exchange for our established players, this should be simply fanfuckingtastic. Andrew Miller helped combined for a no hitter this year after all.
I've been saying for a long time Marlins fans over rate Beinfest. He's got his biggest job ahead of him if he is here after this year. Loria may have also been disgusted enough by this past season to finally get rid of him.

Beinfest is signed through 2015. There is a 0% chance Loria gets rid of him. He makes mistakes, but everytime someone criticizes him is pretty trivial.
He's drafted arguably the best pitcher in baseball going forward. Acquired a top 3 position player in baseball. Acquired and drafted two rookie of the years. Built a top 3 farm system in baseball before they all graduated. Finds Dan Uggla in the Rule V, and turns waiver/milb contracts into Ross, Cantu, Baker, Lindstrom, etc. Normally, finds an assortment of Gardner, Miller, Waecther, Donnelly, etc to patchwork, but it didn't work out ONE year? All of this is wiped clean because he has no payroll to sign two relievers and two bench players? Over rated!
He's not perfect, but he is damn good and is somewhere solidly in the top third of GMs in the league. I'm pretty confident Beinfest knows Veras, Lamb, Barden, etc all suck, but with no payroll, what was he going to do in the offseason? I will hammer down criticism if this behavior continues in 2012.
This is a non-issue. We're lucky to have this front office team even if they aren't Theo or Freidman.
The Marlins probably need to go on a White Sox-type run to avoid a breakup, but if they do decide to sell, then the Rockies will be ready to talk Dan Uggla and there is some sense that both sides feel as if they would match up well on a deal the Marlins might have some interest in catcher Chris Iannetta, as well as some of the Rockies' pitching.
Paulino easily makes what Ianetta does in arbitration after this season. Moot point there.
If the Marlins think Ianetta performs better, and want to "sell high" on paulino, that makes some sense. Still maintain they need chacin or friedrich back, if not chacin due to MLB readyness.
I really can't see Paulino getting a 5.5 million raise through arby. But if the front office think's like you then I doubt Paulino will be back with us next season. In all honesty I like Paulino but I am not a fan of paying him that much nor do I think he will continue to hit righties as well as he has thus far.
*Just recalled he was almost non-tendered last yr until he agreed to a deal at like the very last minute.

Yes, poor wittle Woria and his staunch unwillingness to give Beinfest any kind of a budget to work with. Dude makes money hand over fist and gives Beinfest(and I guess Hill, maybe...) as little as possible to work with. The fact that the team is as competitive as it is with arguably the worst owner in professional sports is a testament to Beinfest being decent at worst.
I think his only weakness, at least lately, has been the draft, but that is once again a direct result of his boss being a fucking miser.
