  • Marlins Searching for Bullpen Help

The Marlins have tried to upgrade their bullpen, but have balked at the asking price, according to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com.

Frisaro writes that the failure to get a deal done isn't for lack of trying, but that every time the Marlins inquire about a player, they are asked about parting with first base prospect Logan Morrison. The 22-year-old first baseman is batting .325 with a 951 OPS with Triple-A New Orleans. The Fish aren't about to give away one of their prospects for a quick fix.

    Yeah.

No to Logan for any reliever.

I might be willing to discuss logan for the Mexecutioner, but I still don't think I'd do it.

Yeah he is the only reliever I would consider dealing Morrison for. I might actually pull the trigger on that one, to be honest.

            Joakim Soria rhp
            3 years/$8.75M (2009-11), plus 2012-14 club options
signed extension with Kansas City 5/17/08
            09:$1M, 10:$3M, 11:$4M, 12:$6M club option, 13:$8M club option, 14:$8.75M club option ($0.75M buyout for each option)

All of that is incredibly tasty and if you say give Leo a 3 year $13-15 million deal for 11-12-13 (which he'd take), you're talking a shut down 8-9, with all sorts of club controlled nasty with Marinez, Jennings, Ceda, Tucker, maybe Sanabia, etc coming up the wings. That would be very cost effective. That's spending like $15 million on the pen a year, or the cost of one Dan Uggla. Really makes you think, don't it. Because you can effectively replace Logan prospect wise, with trading Uggla, so you've basically just done another reliever exchange with the Royals. Maybe I am optimistic on Uggla's trade value, but I see someone giving us a "Brad Hand" for him eventually as a centerpiece.

Your cheap SP pipeline is looking good with Volstad, West, Sanabia, Hand, James, maybe Kaminska or Rasmussen, and you could afford 1 big SP contract if Nolasco stops being a dick. i.e., you could afford to pay two super premium relievers because at least 6-8 guys on the staff are club controlled.

The field is super cheap around the horn besides Hanley, with no one hitting 5th year arbitration except Coghlan until 2013. It would be very easy to field a $75 million team, and there would be excess in that to go out and get someone.

I'm down for the Mexecutioner. He is a star. Love Morrison, but if we can turn Uggla, Cantu, Ross, Logan, and Nate Rob into Mexicutioner, 3-5 more young pitchers, and say a good 4th outfielder or better, we've cleared space, nothing is really effected longterm except finding a left fielder (i.e., a corner player which are plentiful), and our bullpen is Minnesotaesque in the glory days. Firm believer in pitching wins, and I have super confidence in the Marlins to hit.

But he's pretty much the only reliever in baseball you'd mention Morrison for. He's perfect on awesomeness and price.

Can't imagine they're looking to trade him, and I'm not sure Logan matches up for the Royals, though.

I won't even do Logan for Soria. I am 100 percent opposed to trading Lo Mo.

I am opposed to trading Morrison, Dominguez, or Maybin for bullpen.

And like Bobbob1313 said Morrison to Royals doesn't make sense as they have Butler, Hosmer, and Ka'aihue

And we don't have to look any further than our current closer to see an example of that.

I'd do Morrison and some filler (Andrew Miller, Ryan Tucker, VandenHurk) for Soria and Gordon.

As bad as Miller has been, I wouldn't trade him for Gordon.
