  • Pinto Designated for Assignment; Wood Recalled

After the Marlins lost 6-3 to the Rangers on Wednesday night, the Marlins designated left-handed reliever Renyel Pinto.

Right-hander Tim Wood has been recalled from Triple-A New Orleans.

Pinto appeared in the ninth inning on Wednesday, and he yielded a home run to Josh Hamilton.

In 20 games this season, Pinto posted a 2.70 ERA with 16 strikeouts and nine walks.

He went on the disabled list on May 27 with a left hip strain, and he was reinstated on Sunday afternoon.

With Pinto designated, Taylor Tankersley is the lone lefty in the bullpen.

I don't get this, either. He hasn't been great but he's been better than a bunch of other guys in the pen. He makes 1 appearance off of the DL, gives up a homer and he's gone? This really doesn't make much sense.

The straw that broke the camels back. Beinfest don't like a lefty that don't get lefties out and he ignores his effectiveness to righties. No moves right now would really surprise me.

Seriously WTF? I cannot recall someone with his service time with a team being DFA'ed after their first outing off the DL. And, yeah, he's not great, but he hasn't been the worst guy in the pen.

This is a truly terrible move. He's not great, but he's better than a lot of the other crap were sending out there

Dan Jennings has been pretty good lately. He was wild in April but he's been kinda good lately.

At least you know what your going to get with Pinto unlike half these other guys. He certainly had more value to the team then buente

I hate the brokedown car but he is deff not the worst.. Why is Sosa and Buente still there? Recalling Wood again? So we can watch his inability to throw strikes as well. Why not try someone else? You just cleared a 40 spot by DFA'ing Pinto.

If they're going to use a lefty in the bullpen, I'd almost prefer they just recall West and put NateBob into Pinto's old role.

But yeah, this is fucktarded and stuff.

Florida Marlins may part ways with reliever Renyel Pinto for good

                            by Joe Capozzi
Renyel Pinto was hugging his teammates tonight after being designated for assignment. Whether Pinto ever pitches again in a Marlins uniform remains to be seen.

Pinto was designated after giving up a home run to Josh Hamilton in the ninth inning. It was Pinto’s first appearance since May 26 and first since he came back from the disabled list yesterday.

RHP Tim Wood will be recalled from Class AAA New Orleans to replace Pinto.

The Marlins have 10 days to trade Pinto, release him or outright him to the minors, provided he clears waivers. Expect the Marlins to push hard for a trade, which seems very do-able since relief pitching is at a premium.

A change of scenery might do well for Pinto, who has a 2.70 ERA in 20 games. He allowed 5 runs on 16 hits and nine walks — the source of much unwanted drama for Marlins fans.

But the bullpen is just one of many flaw on this Marlins team, which fell to 31-34 with a 6-3 loss to Texas.

Remember the Marlins team that just this past weekend scored 25 runs on 35 hits in taking two in Tampa?

Is a little consistency too much to ask?

I have to assume this is setting up for West coming up, because there is no way we can finish the year with Tank as our only lefty. He's fine as a second lefty, not as a lone lefty. And Hunter Jones is probably out for the year with TJ, which only leaves Tank, West, Nate, and Jennings as the lefties near the top.
