I don't think Dan Uggla has any value. I think as bad as he may be and as much as it might suck, he has more value as a Marlin and remaining on this team than he would anywhere else and I doubt we'd get anything for him

I really don't care if we could have gotten Alderson for him. I want to play for this year, and Uggla is extremely important to this team's success.

Everyone remember this come Winter Meeting time when we get 3 guys who combined are not worth Alderson let alone Alderson and 1 or 2 other prospects.

Big time drop by us. Could have dealt him moved Boner to 2B and either let Gaby or Coghlan play 3B and callup Maybin or start Brett Carroll.

Alderson is a legit #3 SP/possible #2 who will be ready next year

It's ridiculous how under appreciated Dan Uggla is by Marlins fans. Second Baseman who hit 30 HRs, drive in 90 rbis, and put up .800+ OPS every single year don't grow on trees. In fact, outside of Chase Utley, they don't exist.

            And we'd be 10 games under .500.

Despite what seems like an incredibly miserable season from him, he's only .027 OPS points away from an .800 OPS

I'm still curious why we should think in the winter meetings that we could have had something one year earlier for a guy even if that was never offered and would not have been given up by the team that traded him. Yeah, in some parallel universe maybe that could have happened, but I don't have any info that leads me to believe we should just assume that deal happens in this universe

Like I said; I don't care about the Winter Meetings. I'm worried about the 2009 season.

Alderson has been overrated his entire career anyways. He's a 4, a 3 maybe. The deal is still a steal for Neal, but it's not ridiculous.

                        I disagree majorly

                        I mean

                        If he puts up 2.3 BB/9, 5.5 K/9, 0.8 HR/9, we're talking about a 3.9 FIP, so a 2 or very good 3.

                        He could also put up a 2 BB/9, 7 K/9, and 0.8 HR/9 for a 3.33 FIP.

I don't see 4 at all unless you think his walk numbers crash in the majors. A #2 to me.

Anytime a 6'6" young guy does well in the Cal League, certain expectations are set. He's not a frontline guy, and while I think there's a very sensible argument for him to be a 2, I don't think that's who he will be. You know who Alderson is to me?

                          Volstad MiLB Career: 57.6% GB / 15.2% LD - 3.69 FIP - 6.2 K/9 - 2.4 BB/9 - 0.5 HR/9
                          Alderson MiLB Career: 46.1% GB / 14.4% LD - 3.59 FIP - 7.3 K/9 - 1.8 BB/9 - 0.5 HR/9

While I love Volstad, he's a middle of the rotation innings eater. Alderson gives you another K, but he also gives up a lot more flyballs so I think his HR rate jumps as high as Volstad's in the majors (1.0/9), maybe higher.

Ya Alderson is a legit #3 starter possibly #2 however he could be the Top Pitching Prospect for a number of teams. BA ranked him #4 in the Giants system behind Buster Posey and Bumgartner. Its not like he is ranked #4 in the Houston or NY Mets system.

I just can't believe people look at 1 season at a time with this team. Until we get a stadium and start paying guys,we will never be a 1 season at a time team. I wanna win just like everyone else.

What the fuck does this even mean? Of course every team has to look at it one season at a time. If we hadn't looked at it one season at of time we would've never won 2 world series'. Yeah those down years after our championships sucked, but I sure as hell wouldn't have traded those world series' for more wins in those seasons.

Of course you have to plan for the future, but the most important time is always right now.

It means u think small market teams play 1 season at a time?

The last time we played 1 season at a time we traded a Adrian Gonzalez for Urbina. Ya great move at the time and we won the WS but imagine if we kept Adrian Gonzalez. We could have called Toronto and offered a Morrison or Stanton package for Halladay and no one would have said a word because Gonzalez would be locked in at 1B.

All I am saying is until we get a stadium and signing guys Long Term we need to look future more than 1 season at a time.
