Jonny Gomes was non-tendered. Anyone interested in the idea of platooning him with Carroll in right (I know he is pretty poor defensively, but that .879 OPS is tempting)?

I'd prefer a left hander, but can't argue with Gomes production. I wouldn't mind if they go in that direction. But considering Gomes and Church will probably find a decent $2-3 million contract, I think this is out of our price range.

I would love to get Kelly Johnson and try and fix him though. Maybe he would still get a better deal elsewhere as I'm sure a bunch of other teams (SD? SEA? Even San Francisco) will offer him a deal and see if he turns it around, but I'd love a mix and match the depth chart and have him playing 2B, 3B, amd LF. Something like

then pick any two of...

Let those back 5 battle for 2 spots. It'll be healthy to give them all 2-4 starts per week and see what happens. Hopefully Johnson and G. Sanchez would just take over and can groom those other three for longterm bench purposes.
