Honestly, given the choice of Nunez or....who? Sanches? I'll take Gregg.
No it's not ideal, but at least you know what you are getting, which is a high WHIP, quasi-effective K pitcher, which gives you at least 2 of those kind of pitchers in the pen in Nunez and Gregg and competition is always a wonderful thing.
Look, it's January 28th, any player signing now is going to get $2 million or less, most of those names will be lucky to get substantially more than the veteran's minimum, at that point, it's a great move. Not as good as bringing back Calero, but still a good move.

Marlins are cautious about signing Kiko Calero because of risk that the veteran's right shoulder may not hold up like it did in '09

As for "their fault". Whatever. He was on a one year contract and had to prove himself. They didn't owe him anything, and should have used him as much as they wanted or needed.poop

I'm with bobbob, the organization owes him nothing more than the paycheck he collects. He came in as a non-roster invitee, he thrived, and we needed him to give us innings. Did we always pick the best innings for him, no, but we don't have any extra duty to him because he's an effective yet fragile reliever.
Also, that we're almost into February with him unsigned still as, arguably, the best reliever on the market all winter tells me that there's something scary as all hell in his medical records or he's so disconnected with his expected price tag and his actual market rate (hello, Johnny Damon) and really we shouldn't cater to that. I have a problem with the fact we haven't called him at all, but I'm not bemoaning his loss because if a guy comes off as good a year as he did yet still can't find a job, something's really really fishy there, and his injury problems are no secret.

Ken Rosenthal tweets that the Marlins have made an offer to Kevin Gregg.
Gregg, 31, spent two seasons as the Marlins closer, but would be returning in a setup capacity, according to Rosenthal.
