  • It wasn't enjoyable to watch most of their innings

    • I disagree. Rob Dibble made it enjoyable or else I wouldnt have done so.

      • Marlins re-signed RHP Brendan Donnelly to a one-year, $1.35 million contract.
Donnelly can earn an additional $1.5 million through performance-based incentives. The 38-year-old had a stellar 2009 season, compiling a 1.78 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 25/9 K/BB ratio over 25 1/3 innings. He's had durability issues in the past, though, and may struggle to stay healthy for the entire year.

Not sure about the accuracy of this report, since roto doesn't give a source and it's been reported elsewhere that Donnelly signed with Pittsburgh.

        • The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Dotel and Donnelly cannot be added to the Pirates' 40-man roster until the team makes moves to create spots for them.
I think this (from that article) may be why we now, potentially, have him

          • The problem is that roto doesn't give a source for their report, while ESPN and other major media outlets have already reported that Donnelly signed with Pittsburgh.
            --------------------
Roto pulled their report of Donnelly re-signing with the Marlins; the report now reads Donnelly has signed with the Pirates on the same terms as were reported in his fake agreement with the Fish. Carry on.

                • Why didnt we use that Pinto money to sign donnelly and tell Pinto to fuck off. And yes Calero is for me, especially if Freddi doesnt rape his arm senselessly like he did last year

                      • Donnelly, with his incentives package, is making more than Pinto. And even besides that, I want the 27 year old left hander who pitched 61 innings last year, over the 38 year old right hander whose pitched 58 innings at the MLB level the last three years.

And I really don't think the bullpen is going to be bad.

I agree with you. Granted there is no proven closer and a pretty inexperienced group, there are plenty of good arms that will make up the bullpen and I believe that as long as the starters do their job, the bullpen will eventually work itself out and not be a concern come midseason

                          • • Add Philadelphia's Tyler Walker and Milwaukee's Seth McClung to the short list of free agent relievers on the Marlins' radar. Florida also was impressed by former Brewers closer Derrick Turnbow's recent workout

                            • The Marlins "don't particularly fancy" free agents John Smoltz and Joe Nelson, writes Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald, but they're eyeing a slew of others. Spencer names Kevin Gregg, Chan Ho Park, Seth McClung, Kiko Calero, Mike MacDougal, Derrick Turnbow and Jose Veras as relievers on the radar.

The Marlins will be bargain-hunting, of course. Year after year the Fish manage to turn up quality relief seasons from guys signed for nothing. In 2009, it was Calero, Brian Sanches, and Brendan Donnelly. Still, you have to wonder if offering arbitration to Calero would've been a wise move.
                              LOL Gregg.

                              • Meh, I'd be ok with Gregg if he's cheap and not in the closer role. And even if Gregg were brought in, it's not like Nunez is a much better option. They both have huge problems giving up HRs (both at 1.70 HRs and essentially equal HR/FB rates) and neither have good walk rates. Gregg strikes out more people than Nunez, but Nunez gets more ground balls. In the late innings, I'll take the guy who's better at missing bats.

Gregg actually seems like the type of pitcher who could come here and be semi-rehabbed (like he was before) and then, in a worst case scenario, dealt at the deadline if the Marlins fall out of the race.
