  • Offseason Discussion - The Bullpen and How it Will Suck

overall the bullpen will be fine,

meyer, pinto, badenhopp will be back for certain

it seems like nunez and stormy are both coming back, i thought nunez was raking up saves just to increase his trade value, because i thought the marlins wouldnt pay for 2 reliever who are going to make over a $1.5mil each

also i expect wood or leroux to start forcing themselves into the bullpen, wood is ready in my opinion, and leroux, could possible be the marlins' backup reliever if someone is inefficient or hurt.

    will sanches be back? FA?

also we have 5 SP competing for 3 spots in the rotation (volstad, west, anibal, RVH, and miller) so one of them could be move into the bullpen, most likely RVH.

    Nunez
    Stormy
    Badenhopp
    Pinto
    Meyer
    Wood
    RVH

that's decent. no stud reliever, but average. God the bullpen, really turn out nicely.

Furthermore, i agree with Lou, if the rotation starts living up to it potential, and should gives up less runs(which it should atleast because of a better defense=less run scored against), it can offset part of the offensive deficits.

cause the marlins have no depth with ML lefties. only pinto and meyer have ML experience, and he is still cheap (<1mil). Maybe voss will be given a chance at spring training, and the other options is west, which i think is highly unlikely.

then again, the marlins could get a lefties in a trade, and then pinto is expendable.

who do you see as pinto's replacement

I have no clue who would replace him, but in no way do I see Pinto 100% being back next year

yep, calling pinto a 100% lock to be with the marlins next season is an overstatement. Its very probable, but you can be certain when you know 1/3 of the roster will changed, and some are predictable, and some are unpredictable (gload). Like i said, if the marlins acquire a ML-ready lefties or believe voss is ready, then pinto could be gone

You save at least $400,000 moving to a club controlled lefty option.

Which isn't a lot, but if it's $37 million, we're going to be cutting it close and that could be the difference between 'that much better' 3B option.

kinda sad its come to that too.. I need a bottle of pepto next to me when Pinto pitches but yes Tank has fallen to nothing worth mentioning.

As for LOOGY, Pinto's numbers against lefties aren't very good. His whip is over 2. If it's a LOOGY we want, Pinto is not it.

If it's an alright lefty 4/5 guy in the pen, give Meyer the stronger lefties (1.20 whip lefties), then he's cool.

Um...he's coming back from surgery and hasn't been good in 3 years.

Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?
