He's given up 1 run his last 22 innings. Insane.

Lewin Diaz is going to be a top 100 prospect next season. I don't know what happened this season but I'm damn happy the Marlins jumped on him before he priced himself out of the team's range.

Jesus Sanchez has been awesome since going to New Orleans. 1.000+ OPS in his short time so far.

Diaz and Sanchez are 22 years old and 21 years old respectively.

So Tyler Heineman has a .900+ OPS in New Orleans and has been that way now for over 200 at bats. I know we gave up Realmuto to get Alfaro, but when do we start considering giving Heineman at bats if he is ready to contribute like he seems?

I also never noticed Eddy Alvarez has a 1.061 OPS in 159 at bats in AAA. Guy should definitely be on the major league bench to see what he has, especially as a shortstop.

U need to take Lee Stone off block list as he has Heineman and Alvarez as HOF guys

Lewin Diaz got healthy and inshape. Had broken hand or thumb and lost some weight LY

He actually looked solid as a LHR too earlier in the year

Forget protecting. I'd be OK giving him the rotation spot we are currently wasting on Noesi right now.

Castano seems like a great kid. Celebrated his grandparents' 50th wedding anniversary with his win last night. See post game interview here if interested: https://twitter.com/JaxShrimp

He's 24, why the heck not? And a lefty to boot. There's room for Neidert in the rotation too - soon as he's ready.

I think it's worth throwing Noesi a few times and see if he's worth protecting. They are going to have to make 4-5 tough(ish) calls on those last few spots, so if there is value to be had, why not. They should be calling up all of these Heineman, Alvarez, Noesi, and Milbrath guys and seeing if another Berti shows up. Just saying, Castano might have already crossed that bridge. Especially as a lefty. The front office is I'm sure aware of his mini-breakout.

This is the presumptive 40 man if we think they keep Berti and Castano which I'm finding likely at this point.

They do need to sign 2-3 veteran bats at minimum to help out as at least 4 (L. Diaz, Jazz, Monte, Sanchez) aren't available until after the Super2 deadline (or later), so this is getting crunched. I can see them giving some veterans minor league deals (like Granderson) to not protect them on the 40 man and keep another reliever through spring training and hope there isn't a later DFA claim. That would let them protect those last few RP arms and they could basically tell the vet this is a procedural move but you're on the team.

              Alfaro, Wallach (2)
              Cooper, L. Diaz (2)
              I. Diaz, Berti (2)
              Rojas, Jazz (2)
              Anderson (1)
              Brinson, Sierra, Monte (3)
              Ramirez, Dean, J. Sanchez (3)
              =15

              Maybe - Riddle, Brigman

-Urena, Caleb, Pablo, Sandy, E. Hernandez, Yamamoto, Sixto, Neidert (8)
-Steckenrider, Stanek, Brice, Brigham, Guzman, Holloway, Dugger, Mejia (8)
-Garcia, Conley, Quijada, W. Stewart, Castano (5)
              =21

Maybes - Tayron, Milbrath, Poteet, Noesi, Keller, Kinley, C. Smith, Graves, Eveld, Beggs, Mills, D. Lee, Chen (lol)

I think this is a bit optimistic, but I completely agree this looks like a very smart and opportunistic move.

Let's just hope the PTBNL is not someone like Osiris and outside top 30.

i dont even think he would be rule 5 eligible regardless. he's had plenty of major league experience. he isnt some random prospect.

You are keeping him or releasing him. I'm 99% confident there is a better longterm arm in the system to keep, but why not just throw him and see?

Also, you may not want to throw all the kids too so there is less film on them. Maybe an extra guy would sneak through.

Vallimont had a no-hitter thru 7 against the Hammerheads, and then the Hammerheads bats just exploded. They're obviously being very careful with Mejia, but his numbers are ridiculous this year between Clinton and Jupiter. Definitely a guy to watch next year. Also, Peyton Burdick continues to hit at Clinton. Probably spends the rest of the year in Clinton, but I hope their aggressive with his movement next year.

Alex Vesia, 17th round pick in 2018 might be the first 2018 pick to make it to the big leagues.
