Catching up on some transactions at the end of June/early July:
-C Adrian Nieto was signed and has already played for both Jupiter and Jacksonville. He was originally a 5th round pick of Washington in 2008. He hadn't played since being released by AAA Louisville in August of 2017.
A large number of releases, as expected with the draft picks coming aboard. Among them:
-LHP Elvis Araujo, who sported a 7.64 ERA in 19 games for AA Jacksonville this season.
-C Igor Baez, who had been with the organization since 2017. He hit .207 with one homer in 121 at-bats in Batavia last season. This year, he was just 2-for-14 with the Muckdogs before getting released.
-RHP Ben Meyer had a 7.43 ERA in 14 starts in AAA this season. He reached the majors last year but was unimpressive in 13 relief appearances. He's already been picked up by Colorado, and assigned to their AA affiliate.
-1B John Silviano, a 13th round pick of Toronto in 2012, made his debut with the Marlins organization in 2016. He hit 13 homers in Jupiter in 2017, then 12 at the same level in 2018. This year, he had 205 at-bats with AA Jacksonville, hitting just .151.
-IF Yangervis Solarte lasted less than a month in the organization, but he managed to hit .314 in 51 at-bats in AAA.
-Once a hot name in the minors, OF Isael Soto rounds out the latest group of cuts. He shined in the GCL in 2014 and 2015, but struggled offensively since then though he clubbed 15 homers with A Greensboro last season. In Jupiter this year, he hit .161 with five homers in 217 at-bats.
