I watched that game where Lacy faced off against Gonzales, he did indeed make him look like a little kid. Lacy pitched 7 no-hit innings in that game. Gonzalez ended up with 1.765 OPS in 16 Games.

As much as I usually prefer bats, and adding a hitter like Martin would really solidify the Marlins system as top tier. If Lacy could become a true ace, that's a hell of a young rotation they should have with him, Sanchez, and Cabrera at the top with any two of the other guys filling it out. You could then, theoretically deal off any of the other pitchers for bats.

Martin definitely would be an interesting add to the system since he can potentially play so many positions. Our toolsy but volatile CF'ers don't work out? Make Martin a CF. Diaz first cup of coffee is more indicative of what he'll be than we think? Make Martin a 2B. Jazz strikes out too much and doesn't hit for high enough average? Make Martin a SS. (although that's the toughest ask) Want to utilize Anderson in RF? Make Martin a 3B. He's a very nice insurance policy because I think his skillset is very safe, he's going to be a solid major leaguer. I just think I wouldn't be able to pass up Lacy and Torkelson's higher upside.

i feel like if we had a few months of minor league action like we would in normal year id be fine with taking a position player but without that id rather just go with a high ceiling pitcher. we have prospects at every single position that we might take as a position player that early in the draft, but we didnt get the opportunity to see which ones took a next step or a step back so the safe bet is a college pitcher with a high ceiling. I would have loved to see another 2 months of bleday, jazz, monte, isan, lewin diaz, etc. we have a really nice group of SP prospects but not a ton in the lower minors and a lot of them are more floor than ceiling. if we can pair lacy with sixto and edward cabrera in addition to sandy plus the 5-8 guys who show clear mid-back of the rotation potential such as neidert, pablo, garrett, rogers, caleb for a few more years, a longshot like guzman, that is a really fucking good group moving forward. Great balance of high ceiling, low floor, injury concern guys like pablo, and quality depth. Add another high ceiling quick riser and you have one of the best group of sp prospects in the league.

Who knows what will happen the rest of this year BUT the 2021 draft might be Very Very good for us next year
#1 No season and Miami picks #3 again
#2 81 game season and Miami has a very hard schedule which means maybe another Top 3 pick likely
2021 will be 20 Rounds and could be the best draft ever(with all the HS kids this year maybe in next year and normal draft). We could have 3 of the Top 40 picks with Rocker/Leiter as SP
I know looking way to far ahead but damn if they play over the next 2 years this right this team could be good for a long timeLast edited by tjfla; 05-29-2020, 06:34 AM.

2021 is the year you go under budget with your first pick and sign talent later. Going to be a lot of good prospects to be had.

Jack Leiter/Kumar Rocker/Luke Leto all could go #1 THIS year.
But if u are between like #5-10 I would say either go under slot and sign talent later OR say f it and just go for it all. Spend as much as possible pay the tax and lose your #1 in 2022. 2021 draft is going to be insane with talent

I'm sure he's not really in the conversation because it feels like the Marlins prefer college players, and he'd add to the logjam of corner outfielders, but if the Marlins are looking to go under slot, Zac Veen would be my pick. His profile is that of a guy that could be a star. You see people comparing him to Cody Bellenger, Kyle Tucker, and Christian Yelich.

i hope we dont go OF. i know you always draft BPA in baseball but there is such a high likelihood that out of the guys in A ball and above already that 3 of them pan out and become long term solutions.
Im also super interested to see how we do in the undrafted phase and especially interested to see how some of these teams being cheap in terms of paying minor leaguers and releasing others ends up affecting player choice. And also wonder how much that was taken into consideration when we decided to pay our minor league guys. i hope it didnt and we just did the right thing but that wouldnt be shocking to me.

Looking like right now its Asa Lacy/Austin Martin/Nick Gonzales in that order (Interesting cause Gonzales is 2B only and Martin could be 2B/SS/3B/CF)
The "Underslot" guys would be Garrett Crochet/Patrick Bailey
Marlins are still 1 of those teams thinking about the go crazy draft method still AND some talk they might draft a high end HS guy in Rd 2S or R3 and see if they can sign him
Draft looking like
1-Asa Lacy
2-1st Rd College Bat who fell
2S or R3-HS player
Remember u get a pick NEXT year if guys in first 4 Rds do NOT sign and we get a Rd 1S pick next year already

New Keith Law mock draft this morning:
3. Miami Marlins: Asa Lacy, LHP, Texas A&M
I don’t believe Lacy would go second, but he could go first, in which case the Marlins would just take whichever of the top three guys is available.
There is also a new BA mock if someone could post...thanks!
