1. Spencer Torkelson - I just think he's the safest bet as far as a bat coming out of college that there's been in a while. Getting the Barry Bonds treatment this year and still mashing
2. Asa Lacy - Just dominated this year, K numbers are eye popping, will have to continue to monitor walk #'s, and how he does now that A&M will be entering SEC play.
3. Austin Martin - Been as expected this year, I think he'll continue to get stronger as the year goes on like he did in 2019. Should be able to handle 3rd or 2nd defensively at the big league level.
4. Emerson Hancock - Big time arm, results have been a little disappointing early, but like Lacy starting SEC play now, we'll really get a better idea of what he's got.
5. Nick Gonzales - Eye popping, unbelievable numbers, but has been pretty quiet against good competition. (Texas A&M and Arizona State) Looked really bad defensively at shortstop, scouts believe he'll end up at 2nd which will help the fact that he doesn't have the arm for short, but also looked shaky with the glove as well. The kid can hit though, I think if he were playing at a big school like Martin and Torkelson his numbers would be right there with them still, but a 5'10" guy who is all bat makes me a little nervous.
I’d go with torkelson but I think this front office is still committed to taking the athlete types. They seem to like the middle of the field guys at ss or cf or athletic pitchers so I think they’d go with a college arm or ss

With two AL teams in front of us, I have to think Torkelson's is gone by 3.

They still like the up the middle guys and likely will go C,SS,CF alot again BUT they wouldn't pass on Tork because of that. If he is there at 3(HIGHLY doubt with 2 AL teams before us and him being a perfect AL guy at 1B/DH) he would be hard to pass on unless his asking price was crazy

Thing that hurts Gonzales is he is 2B only. Martin is 2B/3B and possibly even SS
Lacy has looked great and if he will take below slot I would look hard at him. 2 arms in Ginn and Crochet are both hurt which means they could fall so if u save 1 million at #3 u could possible float 1 of them to R2 and get another Top 10 talent
Did a little research into some of the guys and i think my top choices at 3 would be 1. Torkelson 2. Gonzales 3. One of the pitchers.
As much as I hate drafting based on need I just think we have such a blatant surplus of outfielders that it wouldn’t be a good use of the pick. We need either infield guys, catchers, and you can always add more starting pitching even if I also think we have a pretty decent surplus there as well. I think our top positions of need right now in terms of our current prospect depth at the position would be catcher, third base (with the caveat that we have a pretty solid somewhat long term option there already), 1st base, then 2nd base (we don’t have many 2b options but we have a lot of ss’s who could likely make the transition should jazz pan out as the ss of the future
Joel Sherman of MLB Network reports that the draft can't be held any later than July, and that the event will try to be held earlier if the season is underway. Baseball can also push back the IFA signing period to January, rather than the usual July 2 starting period.
Draft can't be held after July but in TERRIBLE news. MLB has the option to make the draft this year go from 40 to 5 to 10 Rds and next year from 40 to 20 Rds. YES 5 Rds!!! If that happens just take 6 BPA guys screw $$$
They can sign undrafted players for 20K and most expect HS guys who aren't elite to just go to college

if youre gonna limit it to 5 rounds you cant limit the undrafted guys to just 20k. that is incredibly fucked up.
