Nice start by Nicolino, although I'd like to see more K's.
Mason Hope has been shaky to start the season, so it's nice to see a start like this from him. He's an interesting guy to follow and could be in the Marlins starting rotation come 2016 or so. Our starting pitching depth in the minors is looking really nice.
Last note. Zack Cox has 18 walks and 20 K's this season in 105 AB's. Last season, he walked 22 times and K'ed 90 times in 394 AB's. I really, really like the kind of plate discipline he's shown so far this season. An OBP% over .420 is something to take note of. Still wouldn't mind seeing him called up soon.
I'm kidding. I expect Coghlan to cool off, enabling us to move Coghlan back to the bench. We could also just as easily send Dietrich back to AA or AAA for some more seasoning (although I'd rather keep him in the lineup).
I think it's important to let things play out right now. However, by September, I hope to see this starting lineup
CF Yelich
2B Dietrich
RF Stanton
LF Ozuna
1B Morrison
C Brantly
3B Cox
SS Hechavarria (only because there's nobody else right now)
That 1-5 in the lineup actually looks like something might see from an actual major league baseball team, and Brantly/Cox/Hechavarria wouldn't exactly be the worst 6-7-8 we've produced this season.
My issue is Cox is 24, is doing pretty well at AA, and hasn't been given a chance at the major league level (although he hadn't earned a chance until now). I don't want Cox staying in the minors because of Coghlan unless Cogs is actually an .800+ OPS kind of player (which he's 99% likely not to be).
Cox did miss like two or three weeks this year. If they don't acquire or draft a third baseman by September, then call him up. (he'll be eligible for the Rule V Draft this off-season anyway.)
LHP Chad James-Jupiter Hammerheads-
5-15 3.80 ERA (27 starts) 149.1IP 173H 63ER 51BB 124K
I don't think he's earned the chance now either. It's been 120 PA.
I'm as high on him as anyone (although like I said before, he needs to start getting XBH again), but I have no problem with letting him actually succeed for a while.
--------------------
Rony Cabrera off to a nice .412/.474/765 start in the DSL (only been 4 games). He was a pretty highly thought of international FA last summer (top 20 for sure).
He's one I'm gonna keep an eye on the rest of the year.

If he can bring his ISO numbers up even a tiny bit I bet he will.
He can be a .300/.370/.430 kind of hitter within the next few years. He's got a lot of work to do, but apparently I think his ceiling is higher than some people on this board think it is.
Cox has a better chance of being a good hitter for a long period of time than Coghlan. I'm not convinced Coghlan is anything more than a streaky hitter.
