We all generalize about "innings thrown" because of Verducci, but it's really more about pitch counts and struggling, which most young pitchers do, which are just generalized over that time and why people freak over massive innings jumps. Fernandez is so good, they may not need to "shut him down" for a pure innings reason because he isn't stressed or tiring. He is literally killing everyone. But, removing him in the 5th every inning is a nice way to balance that out.
I think he has 3-5 more starts and the call it a tremendous season at 140-150 innings. What a beast.
