Joe Mack HS Catcher at 31. Don’t know how they’re affording these guys, but two very exciting picks.

Another pick you have to like. Mack was rated pretty closely to Ford by a lot of people with Ford getting the benefit of being athletic to play other positions. It looks like Mack will definitely be a catcher, though. Interestingly enough it doesn’t seem like that pick is under slot either. I’m always a fan of going for big upside, and the Marlins did that with both picks at premium positions.

Joe Mack? I'm not sold. Per CBS: "Mack is a high-school catcher from a cold-weather state who has a history of swinging and missing". We've certainly been down that road before. I think the catcher position has to be addressed by trade(s). If we insisted on going with a catcher, Nelson from FSU was a more obvious fit. After hitting 20 homers in the first half of the college season (to lead the nation by a wide margin), opposing pitchers stopped pitching to him. He still wound up leading the country with 23. Being an older prospect, he may have needed just a short time in the minors.Last edited by Nick; 07-12-2021, 01:57 PM.

It's about being smart, and taking guys later in the draft that'll sign for less, to allow us to spend overslot with the first two picks, which we'll most likely have to do. Hopefully we can find another Peyton Burdick in rounds 2 or 3. A guy who took less because of his age, but also produced once he got in the system.
