Unfortunately, I don't think that's how money works around this organization. I'm pretty confident we'll sign Canha.

Considering we signed Brice, if we sign the rest of the top 5 picks, Canha, and maybe one of LeBlanc, Ard, or Bates -- that would be a solid draft. For us.

Although, I'd totally be down with not signing Toles and using that 4th round money for signing LeBlanc and Ard instead.

Jones and Tulane still have to sweat out one more drafted player. Randy LeBlanc is a prized right-hander from Covington who was drafted in the 16th round by the Florida Marlins. LeBlanc said Thursday that he is still planning to join Tulane this fall. LeBlanc is seeking a bonus that would allow him to clear more than $1 million after taxes — a lofty amount for a 16th-rounder.

LeBlanc’s high school coach, Jeff Dragg, said LeBlanc really wants to go to college and is a “home-body, ” and said LeBlanc has maintained he is not coming off the figure.

“I talked to him last Wednesday and said, what if they offer you $1.1 million, would you go? He said, ’no.’ I think he’s going to Tulane, ” Dragg said.

Prolly stopped talking to him as soon as we signed Brice.

All teams do the same thing, take 2 players who are the same and try to sign 1. Some like Boston,NY sign them both but the strategy usually is draft 2 offer them close to the same offer and get 1 of them

Sign Yelich,Toles and probably 1 more high potential player in the later Rds like past years(Crawford/Perio) and call it a draft

Tulane baseball program retains freshman pitcher Randy LeBlanc

Tulane baseball's pitching staff got a huge boost on Monday night when incoming freshman Randy LeBlanc did not sign with the Major League Baseball team that drafted him in June. LeBlanc is a stiff-throwing right-handed pitcher out of Covington High School who was drafted in the 16th round by the Florida Marlins.

LeBlanc's first choice was to go to college, according to his high school Coach Jeff Dragg, and so LeBlanc set a high signing bonus number $1.5 million. The Marlins were unable to meet that price point and so the signing deadline came and went Monday night without LeBlanc going professional.

"We’re very excited about Randy," Tulane Coach Rick Jones said. "He is a tremendous talent that comes from a great high school program. Randy comes from a wonderful and supportive family and was upfront with our coaching staff and the Florida Marlins from the beginning and communicated well with both parties during the entire process. When you have that kind of experience with a young man during the recruiting process it is refreshing and we are excited to have Randy heading to campus."

It really does suck that we weren't able to sign one of LeBlanc, Ard, Crawford, Johnston, or Bates. Especially since we didn't sign Toles.

A sour point to an already bleh draft.

I read that Ard only wanted $100,000. So that's disappointing. Maybe a good showing at the Cape increased his number. Whatever.

On Monday, Green Wave coach Rick Jones said he was "not encouraged" by LeBlanc's chances to return after he left Saturday's start in the fifth inning. Jones said LeBlanc "felt something go" in his elbow after throwing a changeup. Today, the Green Wave announced that LeBlanc has a torn ulnar collateral ligament that will require season-ending surgery. Team doctor Buddy Savoie will perform the surgery, which will sideline LeBlanc for six to nine months.

Certainly, this is a major blow for a Tulane team built around pitching and defense. LeBlanc, a freshman righthander, was already blossoming into a true ace for Tulane, going 0-0, 2.87 with 22 strikeouts and five walks through 16 innings. He ranked No. 7 on Baseball America's preseason list of the nation's top 50 prospects in the freshman class, and Jones said he was working at 92-93 mph with a "big-time changeup" before he got hurt. Jones said he had been planning to ease LeBlanc into the Friday starter role after he got his feet wet, similar to the way TCU used Matt Purke a year ago. And he said LeBlanc had the talent to make a a Purke-like impact.
