Also, can you guys tell me about

Olmos, who hasn't done anything but you guys ranked top 15
      C. Petersen and Graham, who have done nothing special compared to the "RP guys" and weren't top picks
Hodges, who is a prep arm

Just curious how these guys slip into other top 30s where I only see minor league depth right now.

Just curious how these guys slip into other top 30s where I only see minor league depth right now.

I have Olmos on my top 15 mainly because of projection, (lefty, 6ft 5in and only 180) intangibles (Scholarship to play at Arizona, which tells me pretty good talent), present stuff (Plus change-up already, works in upper 80's and hits low 90's on occasion, good feel for secondary pitches).

        C. Petersen(25) - good overhand curve, works mainly high's 80's but can hit 94 mph on occasion, and has a good projectable frame and work ethic.

        G. Johnson(21) - electric raw stuff, very projectable. His numbers might have been more impressive this year but supposedly remade his delivery with the help of pitching coordinator Wayne Rosenthal. Turned down a scholarship to play at Fresno State.

        J. Hodges(26) - extremely high on him, from what I have gathered the only reason he was their for us to take in the 7th rd was because he was hard to scout due to his relatively remote location and small school success. Presently works in the 92-94 mph range and peaks at 96. At 6-7 and 235 lbs still has lots of projection left which is the best part.

I feel pretty good ranking these 4 guys over the likes of lets say....Alejandro Sanabia??? because of potential, projection, and present stuff. I would say this I was higher on Sanabia(32) until I read this about him:

Background: Just 20, Sanabia’s star has risen considerably this year. Coming into the game he was sporting a sub-2.00 ERA and nearly four-to-one K:BB, striking out 42 and allowing just two home runs in 57 IP. He’s started to garner a fair share of attention as an intriguing sleeper prospect.

What I saw: If I met Sanabia on the street and he told me he was a high-school second baseman, I would believe him. The 6’1” listing on the Hammerheads website seems generous, and he’s quite skinny. He fields his position very well and is athletic.

Sanabia seemed to be overthrowing a bit. He needs to break the habit of flying open with his front shoulder, which leaves the fastball high. I can’t blame him for trying, though; the fastball was mostly sitting between 85-87, and he only got up to 89 twice. It’s got good run, but not a lot of sink.

It took me (and two of the scouts I was sitting with) a couple innings to get a read on his offspeed pitches. What turned out to be a changeup, we first thought to be some sort of Brad-Lidge-esque slider (where it’s more vertically oriented than most sliders). Later, he started throwing his real slider more, and the difference became obvious.

The changeup, despite coming in only a few clicks off his facebook (80-81), is a darn good pitch. He doesn’t telegraph it a bit, which is the key, and he commands it decently. It’s got strong dive to it. The slider (also 80-81) was effective when down in the zone. The problem is, he was missing high with it quite often. Sort of "getting under it," as they say. It’s not looking like a future plus pitch right now, but if he learns to harness it, it will give right-handed batters a little more to think about when facing him.

Andrelczyk is probably not in the top 30, let alone our 6th best prospect.

                                1) Mike Stanton
                                2) Matt Dominguez
                                3) Logan Morrison (oh yes I went there. I'll have more later, but unless Logan approaches a .900 OPS guy and/or Dominguez struggles to put anything above .700, the fact that Dominugez is an elite defense 3b puts him over Logan)
                                4) Smolinski
                                5) Gaby
                                6) Cousins
                                7) Petersen

Gaby, Cousins, and Petersen really are all basically interchangable though.

Not even going to bother trying to touch (tnstaa) pitching prospects outside of not to overvalue relievers, and hitters after this is just an argument of what you think their potential is.
