I really don't understand the problem here. Let's see, the "problems" voiced:
(1) A team can horde cash considerations
reality:nope, it's only a $5 million +/- threshold. No team can sell off excess cap space nor can a team go for broke with a $100 million payroll
(2) What's to stop a team from continually operating at $80 million, they can always operate at $80 million!
reality Well, sure, just like any team can trade for the top pitcher at the deadline, but eventually your organizational resources get consumed. Maybe someone has enough players to make a move time and time and time again for the cash considerations, but I'll bet against it being good for the long term outlook as well as the short term outlook
(3) Owners can collude to send each other their cap space!
reality Owners could collude to send each other their best players too, this is just absurd to voice as a concern. The problem here doesn't derive from the cash exemption, the problem here derives from lack of trust. Ask yourself a simple question: 'do you trust _______ to get the best deal possible for his best player?' If the answer was 'yes' before you found out about the exemption, then seriously, stop nagging. Crimson Cane and I talk a lot, I can promise you I'm not going to give him a cut-rate deal on any cap space, nor Scott Kazmir
I'm not talking about hoarding cash. I'm talking about a situation where an owner would be able to get 2-3 players that are average to good when the other owners can't. Bobbob still has $2 million in cap space left after this transaction. He can still make another trade or sign a free agent to upgrade a $350,000 player to get a guy earning $1.65 million. That's a whole extra player right there.
As for the year after year thing, we're still going to be doing drafts. A player would still be able to keep trading their first round pick (whether it's the one they just drafted or their draft pick for the next year) to keep getting the extra $5 million. That's not going to deplete anybody's team that much.
As for the collusion, I'm not saying that it can't happen. I'm just saying that this opens that door for another way to do it.
As for trust, we have a bunch of new owners here that most of us know nothing about. I'm a very trusting person but the fact is, most of us don't know shit about the other owners. While I had a TBBC team, it was only for about a month so I don't know much about this, either.

My point is that it gives Bobbob an edge on the field RIGHT NOW because he can have a player that is better than the rest of us can have unless we try to go find another NNY that doesn't care about winning this year. That is what is unfair.
If I had a team I would call a meeting with the commish and complain if I was not in first place that the first place team has an edge on the field right NOW!

As a matter of fact, I'll make a standing offer to trade you my $5 mil every season for you first round pick.

If Bobbob keeps trading his first round picks, I will laugh so hard. The majority of first round picks cost less and are as good/better than anyone you can get for 5m.
C'mon Mba. This is ridiculous.
