  • I would say it's reasonable to expect something like a 9+ K/9 and a 3+ BB/9 this season, with an infinite amount of upside.

Pecota doesn't really know what to make of him, but they have him for an 11.5 K/9, 3.7 BB/9, and a 1.13 HR/9, for a 3.47 ERA. That's extremely optimistic for Pecota on a young pitcher.

I see the BB being a bit higher, have no problem with the Ks being high either, not much of a book on a flamethrower like that yet, so he should rack up the Ks, at least early on. Maybe at least 10/9... and I can see the HR being higher as he tries to overpower the wrong guys...

But, at the same time, it's entirely likely he just sets the league on fire from day 1.

      • His slider thing is ridiculous. I don't know what to call it because it's a slider, but it is just too much break to be a slider. It's insane. I could see him making some really good hitters look very foolish.

From what I've seen, the knock on him isn't ability. If he stays healthy, he's as legit as the most legit are legit. I just don't know if he will stay healthy.

Ah, well, props to him. But yeah the injury thing...

            • They don't have much in terms of long term offensive pieces.

but in all seriousness, ian desmond and ryan zimmerman, along with the bevy of young catchers they'll have, and a solid young pitching staff, and i definitely see a strong team

They will start this quest by breaking the 70 win barrier this year.

                      Ian Desmond?

The guy whose success was entirely dependent on a .400 BABIP in the minors last year and hit 4 home runs in 89 ABs at the major league level when his career high in a season is 12?

Meh. He seems like less of a player of note than Chris Coghlan. I prefer Danny Espinosa

I'm going to maintain they are weak on position players. Yeah, Zimmerman is awesome. They had three every day players under 30 last year. One is the MLB version of Shawn Kemp, without any of the production. The other has a career minor league OPS of .664.

I don't think they are any better positioned for the future than we are, and in fact, since much of our young talent has figured it out at the MLB level, and they are all based on potential I'd say we're better positioned.

                      • the nats are the most improved team imo, they added wang, marquis, pudge, kennedy, and a bunch of bullpen options. They could be a .500 team this year.

                        • Pudge stinks, he's really no better than Bard was.

Wang is probably done, I really don't see home coming back and being productive again.

Marquis is meh. He's a 4.5 ERA pitcher at best.

Adam Kennedy is meh. He's like the Jason Marquis of 2nd basemen. He's no offense, all defense, but he has some value in not being all around terrible.

They could win 70, but I'd be very surprised if they are .500. Very. they are still the worst team in the division by a good amount.

They got Kennedy for defense. They led the league in Errors last season they wanted to shore up the middle with him. Guzman and him will be fun to watch. But i predict Guzman is hurt within the 1st month of the season. He can't have back to back productive yrs

The Nats can buy offense with the best of them.

That ballpark/market can put them in $130M payroll territory.
