Not MLB, but I can't find the thread we had about this topic (probably buried in the off-season topic somewhere):

Frederich Cepeda signed with the Yomiuri Giants. He's the first Cuban non-defector to sign since Cuba changed their stance.

Yulieski Gourriel is negotiating with the Yokohama BayStars: http://www.npbtracker.com/2014/05/ba...with-gourriel/

I heard a pretty funny Roger Clemens story today.

Clemens was pitching and facing the White Sox. (I can't remember who the White Sox starter was) but anyway, the game went into the 10th. Clemens had pitched 9 innings and was in the clubhouse changing and getting ready to be done. The White Sox pitcher went out for the 10th and apparently someone told Clemens this and Clemens rushed to the laundry bin and put his uniform back on and went back out there to pitch the 10th to not get shown up.

        I thought that was funny.

A 17-year-old in Washington state threw 194 pitches in a start the other day. Wee.

Somewhere along the line that story got made up.

Clemens had one start of more than 9 innings in his career, and it was against the Angels, and Chuck Finley came out after 7 innings: http://www.baseball-reference.com/bo...98805200.shtml

Then I thought maybe it was a situation where he went out for the 10th but didn't record an out, maybe he lost or something, I dunno. Here are his games vs. the White Sox in which he threw 9 innings. Only once did the opposing pitcher throw a complete game, and that was an 8 inning CG loss.

The Mets finally got their first hit from a starting pitcher. It was Jacob deGrom in his Major League debut. (first MLB at-bat as well.)

MLBNetwork's Mitch Williams is taking a leave of absence after ordering a 10-year-old pitcher to hit opposing batter in a youth game.

Earlier this week, we learned former MLB closer Mitch Williams was ejected from a Little League tournament in New Jersey for arguing with an umpire last weekend. He disputed the report but onlookers say he used profanity that was loud enough for the children to hear.

Deadspin published a follow-up story on Friday afternoon (NSFW: language), and it appears this situation is far worse than some yelling at an umpire. Williams reportedly used profanity while speaking to at least one child directly, and he ordered one of his players to hit an opposing batter with a pitch. These kids are 10 and under, remember.

Video of the alleged beanball incident is available via the Deadspin link (again, NSFW: language). Here's some more:

Watch as Williams says something to his catcher, after which the catcher goes out to the mound to say something to his pitcher. SJ Titans coaches and players overheard this interaction, and report that Williams ordered his pitcher to intentionally hit the SJ Titans batter with the first pitch. One witness told us it was in an attempt to knock the SJ Titans pitcher out of the game.

Sure enough, the first pitch hits the SJ Titans player square in the ribs. (The home plate umpire, who had been made aware of the upcoming beanball, warned both benches.) One SJ Titans assistant coach confronted Williams about the pitch after the game, and reported that Williams stated, "I told him to throw it inside."

Other witnesses say Williams was also heckling opposing coaches and players.
