The Twins have signed Ricky to a four-year, $49 million deal. The contract has a $13 million club option for 2018. It is the largest contract the Twins have given out to a free agent.

A contract like that really makes me appreciate our starting pitching depth with years left of arbitration to go.

If only we could acquire just a little bit of hitting.

Twins fans are going to hate that contract. His consistent inconsistency (if that's even a thing) made it impossible to enjoy watching him pitch. You never knew if you were getting a 16 K performance like he did to finish the season against the Braves or if he'd put up a clunker like he was oh so prone to do.

Well, we can end the Hughes debate. The Twins have signed him to a three-year, $24 million deal.
          --------------------
The Twins are also close to signing catcher A.J. Pierzynski.

So, I was somehow right on AAV, but that's way more guaranteed money than I thought possible.

eek. Yeah, I was cool with Hughes on a one year deal. He wouldn't be necessary for three years here.

So it seems the Twins strategy this offseason is to overpay for below average pitchers

The @Dodgers non-tender RHP Ronald Belisario, making him a free agent.
He had been pretty decent for the Dodgers.

The Tigers gave away a very good starting pitcher for nothing to overpay an aging closer. Because that always works.

Dexter Fowler was traded to Houston for Jordan Lyles and Brandon Barnes.

Also, Heath Bell was in a three-team trade and ended up in Tampa.
