Not really. His value kept dropping steadily lower. They held onto him hoping he would turn around enough to keep or get more value for, but it kept tumbling.

If it was tumbling and dropping steadily before snowballing, isn't that different than what you're saying? You're suggesting his value was one place after winning the batting title and then after that BOOM it was at its lowest.

I think Eovaldi has upside, but it's a question of turning his stuff into results. So far, early returns are mostly unimpressive.
