We did save ~$40ish mil. Can't put a price tag on that.

I think he had worn out his welcome anyway. The fact that the Marlins didn't exactly hide their animosity towards him combined with his poor production for a lesser return. Every other team knew he was going to be moved.Amy Adams, AKA Cinnamon MuffLogan Morrison: "If baseball didn't exist, I would probably be ... like a curler. Or a hairstylist."

Never said it wasnt mostly to do with his poor production. But you do lose bargaining power when its a forgone conclusion a guy will be traded no matter what.
The reason the return looks more poor on the surface, to me anyway, is that they gave up a solid lefty too.Amy Adams, AKA Cinnamon MuffLogan Morrison: "If baseball didn't exist, I would probably be ... like a curler. Or a hairstylist."

The only way they werent going to sell him at his lowest was if they had traded him after his batting title year. He went on a gradual but noticeable decline after that. Then it just snowballed.Amy Adams, AKA Cinnamon MuffLogan Morrison: "If baseball didn't exist, I would probably be ... like a curler. Or a hairstylist."

Not really. His value kept dropping steadily lower. They held onto him hoping he would turn around enough to keep or get more value for, but it kept tumbling.Amy Adams, AKA Cinnamon MuffLogan Morrison: "If baseball didn't exist, I would probably be ... like a curler. Or a hairstylist."
