Yeah I'd like to know the answer to this as well.

He was forced to make a split second decision.

He's a baseball player not a trained fighter, right?

      • atleast he led with his non throwing shoulder

        • Agreed. Normal human reaction - just giving himself some leverage.

              • Most pitchers know that when a batter charges you, you throw your glove at them (always hilarious btw) and then sidestep and stall until your catcher grabs the dude.

                • Yeah, hit 'em with the ole.

                  • When a 240 lb guy comes running straight at me to hit me, I don't think my natural reaction would be to lower my shoulder.

My natural reaction would be to throw my glove, run away, or go down before he hits me. It's a baseball brawl. They last like two seconds before everyone loses sight of you.

                    • I'm pretty sure my natural reaction would be to brace for impact and hold my own as well as I can.

I guess he could have run away, but jeez.

                      • Not run away. But when Quention lowered his shoulder, I probably try to sidestep and get him to tumble. He was running on the mound, he probably would've gotten a face full of dirt.

Dodgers are accusing John Baker of making fun of he injury. That does not seem like his style.

                        • Doubt you're thinking that if he charges you that due to the angle of the mound, you might be able to get him to fall over and eat dirt by side-stepping as he is charging you.

Anyway, I think Baker was friends with Coghlan. So.... ya know?

                            Least surprising post of April.

I think this is exactly what all of us would have done.

                            Except bobbob and Erick.

Rick Porcello more like Erick Pussyllo

Chris Volstad didn't lower his shoulder when Nyjer Morgan charged the mound.

Like, you really never see a pitcher lower his shoulder like that. I'm looking for other examples.

Even if they don't throw their glove and run, I've never seen a pitcher do what Greinke did and what you guys are saying is a super natural reaction.

Like, Greinke was obviously welcoming the confrontation. Most pitchers do not do what he did.
