No, they won the American League.
    --------------------
I mean, they won their division and they won the pennant. You have a weird definition of disappointing.
    --------------------
Maybe people are picking them because they have the easiest path to the playoffs and then they like them in the playoffs because Verlander?

Well, I don't really think the Tigers were disappointing. I also don't think the Angels were disappointing. I think saying one was disappointing and not the other is basically putting an entire season's worth of weight on a few weeks worth of games in colder weather.

I think neither the Tigers nor the Angels were really all that disappointing last season. I think the Tigers played in a weak division and did well in two playoff series. I think the Angels were better than them last season and happened to play in a tougher division.

If it's just "they did well in the postseason", then I guess I can understand that, even if I really, really disagree with that line of thought.

They're the defending champions, a pretty-respected statistical model says they're the best team, I feel like this isn't that bad of a pick, ya know?

          Am I saying it's a bad pick?

Like, I don't think I am, so maybe I'm doing a really poor job of explaining myself. I think I said they're just about as good as a bunch of other teams and can win the AL.

I just don't think they should be the odds-on-favorites to win. I think it's a bit weird that expectations are that high for them.

I think he doesn't really disagree with that. I think he just kinda wants more other people to disagree with it.

Well, I mean, these people have to pick someone right?

It'd be funny if they put FIELD (I just can't pick an odds-on favorite, you guys)

No you're not, you think it's weird that the picks for AL Champion haven't been more varied.

You understand them being a pick, but not the pick.

Perhaps a bunch of the people picking struggled to decide which of the best AL teams would ultimately win the AL.

Plus, you did say that the post-season doesn't so much prove who really is the best, so maybe those folks just think once it gets there, the Tigers are best suited to win a series (prob not).

I think maybe the issue is that they aren't explaining their picks, so maybe Beef is right.
                      --------------------
I think it was just jarring to see them as such a seemingly overwhelming favorite.

Victor Martinez is coming back and they get a full year out of Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante. That's pretty big. Infante might not seem like a big deal but they had guys like Ryan Raburn and Danny Worth playing 2B before he got there.

They also replaced whoever their RF'er was (Delmon Young?) with Torri Hunter, which is a pretty significant upgrade. That's not really anywhere near the same team.

I don't think that it's a big deal that they're favorites. The fact that they're basically a lock to win the division because it's not very good (or, in other words, worse than the East/West) makes it an easier pick, as well.

I don't think I remember a time when the AL was as wide open as this. Reminds me of the NL a few years ago. I really don't know what to expect out of the East.
