Oh, you mean that result of them winning the AL?

I googled 2012 World Series, Hugg is right.

I tend to think regular season results are more indicative of a team's ability than a few postseason series.

Also, I believe the Giants won the World Series, and none of CBS' or ESPN's experts have them winning the NL.

So I think they may not be using the logic you are suggesting.

I thought they were going to have some sort of negative run differential.

It was 16 total runs worse than the White Sox. I thought you said it in a way to suggest that the White Sox differential would be terrible and the Tigers was even worse than theirs. You gonna pick the White Sox over the Tigers this season because of last season's run differential? Or you just think based on that, that it's not fair to pick them over other AL teams?

I think people feel like the Tigers are better than their regular season performance last season indicated.

I would tend to agree with them.

I mean, I can't name an AL team I think is definitely better than them.

PECOTA projects the Tigers to go 91-71 and have the best run differential in the AL

I think it is weird that they were a decent team last season that is basically being taken over the field by consensus.

I'm just not sure how that consensus has developed.

Isn't Victor Martinez back from his injury?

I think it's totally possible that they will be the best team in the AL. I'm just not sure how they have become the odds-on-favorite.

Like, I get why every person is picking the Nationals. They were awesome last year and it is reasonable to think a young team will improve internally; plus they add a full season of Strasburg and Harper.

I'm just not understanding how a similar consensus is developing around the Tigers.

If it's totally possible they'll be the best in the league, why is it weird a majority of folks expect them to be that?

Because that does not mean I think they should be favored over the field?

I have to say, I'm a bit surprise at the blowback from what I thought was a pretty innocuous comment. I guess everyone likes the Tigers more than me, or dislikes everyone else in the league less than me?

I'm not trying to blow back. I'm testing your reasoning on this. I just thought it was weird.

Like, I'm not saying I think they are bad, at all.

I think they are just about as good as the Rays and Angels and Rangers. I think their performance last year suggests as much.

But my reasoning is not "they definitely won't win the AL". I'm just wondering why people appear to like them so much after they were barely one of the best teams in the AL last season.

Because the Yankees are old, Tampa got rid of Shields, the Angels were disappointing last season so people don't necessarily want to jump on them again, Texas lost Hamilton. etc?
