Marlins Park will host Pool 2 of the World Baseball Classic next March 12-16. Monday, the four first-round pools were announced.
The winners and runner-ups from pools C and D will advance to the Marlins Park tournament. The pool C participants: Dominican Republilc, Puerto Rico, Spain and Venezuela. In pool D: the United States, Canada, Italy and Mexico.
Pool A features Brazil, China, Cuba and Japan. In Pool B: Australia, Chinese Taipei, Korea and the Netherlands. The winners and runners-up from those brackets advance to Pool 1 play in Tokyo March 8-12.
Team USA manager Joe Torre on Monday said he's spoken with some managers and general managers about certain players. It's unclear whether he will want Giancarlo Stanton on his roster. Provisional 28-man rosters for all teams will be announced in mid-January.
