    Also:
Any fair fly ball that could have been caught by an infielder with ordinary effort is covered by the rule, regardless of where the ball is caught. The ball need not be caught by an infielder, nor must it be caught in the infield

Not that it matters, but I just saw it again. It was pretty clearly after, in my opinion.

I was always under the impression that the infield fly rule had to occur inside the diamond.

            Surprisingly, it actually wasn't intentional.

"On the infield fly rule the umpire is to rule whether the ball could ordinarily have been handled by an infielder —not by some arbitrary limitation such as the grass, or the base lines."

                Or a controversial fan interference.

A deep fly would-be homerun knocked out of the air by a flying bottle

The thing is the play required an effort of the infielder running backwards and trying to locate the ball. It was anything but routine. The point of the infield fly rule is so the defender doesnt trick the runners and cause a double play or triple play. That play IMO does not constitute infield fly.

I think it was pretty routine and didn't require more than ordinary effort. That's a pop up. Infielder had plenty of time back up, wasn't one that he had to turn and run for and attempt to catch it over his shoulder.

I'm mostly just annoyed that this is gonna distract from the Braves being the Braves again.

Its not routine. The infielder had to look back a couple times, locate the ball behind is shoulder, turn around assume the pop up catching position and catch the ball all the while a good 30-40 feet behind the infield dirt. How is that routine? Easy, should make it, he is a major leaguer sure, but its not routine. That Bourn catch just now was routine.

To me, if you can call it easy - which you did - it's pretty routine. Doesn't need to be hit right at you like the Bourn one. Otherwise, they would limit the infield fly rule to inside the infield and change routine to hardly need to move.
