I read that LA is eating 95% of the salaries due. So not much.

Deal is done.
Blockbuster complete
Posted by Michael Silverman at 8:12 am
The rebuilding of the Red Sox begins today.
Early this morning, the Red Sox and Dodgers concluded a blockbuster deal in which the Red Sox shipped four players – Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto – in exchange for a massive relief in salary as well as four minor-leaguers and first baseman James Loney, according to a Red Sox source.
The deal will be worth in excess of $275 million to the Red Sox including luxury tax savings and salaries for the remainder of this season and beyond. Over the next six years, the Dodgers will receive $12 million from the Red Sox, with the payments to begin next year.
Through a mixture of underperformance and bad seeds in the clubhouse, the Red Sox, out of the playoffs mix since 2009, have needed a massive overhaul that most thought would begin in the offseason.
The Dodgers, under new ownership, sped up that timetable by making waiver claims this month.
There will be much more to come throughout the day about the deal.

I can't help but feel that this new Dodgers ownership is digging their own grave in the name of a playoff push this yearOriginally posted by Madman81Most of the people in the world being dumb is not a requirement for you to be among their ranks.

So getting 12m per year for LAD essentially makes A-Gon's and CC's average annual salary down 6m each.
That's essentially makes Gonzalez's contract a 7 year, 16m per and Crawford's contract 6 year, 14.3m.
So basically, they have to average 3 WAR each for the duration of contract for it to be worth it.
Per 650 PA, Crawford has average a 4.5 WAR since 2004 and Adrian has averaged a 4.4 WAR. So they're getting roughly 9 WAR while paying for 6 WAR, assuming they're their career averages going forward (Which I think is a very fair assumption).
It's a very big risk but also has a very big reward possibility. I know a lot of people are hating on it but Crawford has already bounced back this year and Adrian should bounce back as well.
I actually like it and kind of wish we got in on it (minus the whole Beckett/Punto thing). We have basically 30m to spend for the next 4 seasons (And a lot after that)
C Buck
1B Gonzalez
2B Bonifacio
3B ???/Trade Logan for 3B
SS Reyes
LF Crawford
CF Ruggiano
RF Stanton
SP Johnson
SP Buehrle
SP Nolasco
SP Turner/within/trade
SP Eoalvadi/within/trade
Which would be about 103m payroll.
That's a pretty freakin sexy line up. Yelich would eventually handle CF (Hopefully), and trading Logan/Zach Cox would hopefully handle 3b(/2b).
It would be very problematic if our SP from within don't develop though, as that would give us no money to buy someone. But it's normally not a good idea to buy SP anyway.Last edited by nny; 08-25-2012, 03:16 PM.
