  • Bartolo Colon Fails Drug Test, Suspended 50 Games

    http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/jo...ame-suspension

Veteran Oakland Athletics pitcher Bartolo Colon failed an MLB drug test and is subject to a 50-game suspension, CBSSports.com has learned.

Colon resurrected his career after a controversial stem-cell treatement. He is 10-9 with a 3.43 ERA for the A's this year after going 8-10 with a 4.00 ERA with the Yankees last year.

Colon's suspension comes on the heels of the 50-game suspension for Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera.

Someone want to save me the google time.......

What does their testosterone level have to be?

      Isn't normal between like 250 and 800?

Anywhere in between and they're good for testing purposes?

Normal adult values are then from 240 to 950 ng/dL, with an individual's testosterone level dropping slowly within this range beginning sometime after age 30.

Skip Bayless basically accused Jeter of using PEDs on ESPN2 this morning.

"I am shocked by what I'm seeing from Derek Jeter right now. They all said he was washed up. All of a sudden, this man has turned 38 years of age in June and already he has more hits than he had last year. ... I'm seeing a whole new guy this year from last year ... Are you kidding me? You would have to have your head in the sand or your head somewhere else not to at least wonder, 'How is he doing this?' "

I don't like Skip saying something like that at all, but I don't like that Jeter's response was basically "Skip Bayless, you're dumb" when it should have been something like "I've been in this game for 16 years, been tested thousands of times and never once tested positive for anything. Two bad eggs don't spoil the bunch and it isn't fair to those of us who work hard to be lumped in with those players who cut corners."

Ultimately PEDs will never go away until there's an actual punishment. Colon is at the end of his career and may have had another guaranteed contract for a small amount of money but he's already gotten his. Melky is likely to make at least $10 million next year by all accounts, even if he doesn't get a long term contract. I don't think the problem disappears until:

            A) The players start policing their own kind, and outing players who are doping
            B) Teams start blackballing players that have taken PEDs, or
            C) The penalty is stiffer than a 50 game suspension. Minimum one calendar year.

I get what you're saying but I'm completely fine with "Skip, you're dumb." He doesn't deserve an actual response.

Guys like him and tr305 say ridiculous things and other people make informed responses that are ignored or otherwise dismissed. You only take the take time to respond seriously so many times before you say "fuck this, you're dumb."

I don't know what Jeter's response was, but I don't see what responding with a 2 bad eggs comment does for anyone.

                  this was his response:

“What do you want me to say?” Jeter said (via the New York Daily News). “Maybe Skip should be tested. I don't know him, but ... ”
“This is a first for me, man,” Jeter said. “I don't know what to tell you ... What do you want me to say? I ain't getting involved with this, man. You can say whatever you want to say now, huh? There's no repercussions.”

It's a complacent admission by Lance, isn't it?

I usually get tired of defending myself after about 5 minutes, let alone 5 years. At some point, most people kinda say fuck it and move on. Especially when there's no "real" punishment involved.

He probably did it, but dropping the battle doesn't prove he did to me. Just proves he's tired of arguing about it.
