Volstad called it a "learning process" and said he was trying to be "too fine" with his pitches.

"Nobody is perfect," he said. "So how can I expect myself to be?"

Volstad fell to 0-7 as a Cub with a 7.94 earned-run average, and 0-12 with a 5.68 ERA over his last 20 starts with the Cubs and Marlins. His last victory came on July 10, 2011 against the Astros, when he pitched for the Marlins.

Volstad insisted "the streak" has nothing to do with the way he's pitching, adding: "It's just a matter of me wanting to be perfect. ... Earlier it might have been (weighing on him), but now I'm just focusing on each individual pitch."

It's just hard for me to take that team seriously. Still seems too much like last season. Starting staff overperformed last year during the first half and then they fell off badly in the second half.
