BRADENTON, Fla. -- The Pirates and star center fielder Andrew McCutchen agreed to terms on a six-year contract worth $51.5 million with a club option for 2018 worth $14.75 million, according to a source.
The contract will buy out McCutchen's remaining arbitration seasons and at least two years of free agency.
McCutchen, 25, is one of the best center fielders in the National League. He earned a spot on the NL All-Star team in 2011 and hit .259 with 23 home runs and 89 RBIs last season.
McCutchen joins Jose Tabata as the only Pirates player with a long-term contract. Tabata signed a six-year, $15 million contract with three club options in August.
Good for them. Seriously good to see.

Interesting:
In the same piece, Navarro writes that Willis and Pierre are happy to be in camp together. The pair won a World Series together with the Marlins in 2003, and have remained very close friends since. Pierre is the godfather of all three of Willis' daughters, and the two refer to each other as "brothers." Willis also noted that the Marlins have shown interest in him again since trading him.
--------------------
I would be for this.
Willis said the Marlins showed interest in him over the past couple of seasons. And with that, Willis smiles.
“You never know, there might be some time for me to do a little Jeff Conine move before it’s all said and done,” Willis said. “I’ve actually spoken to him about it in the past.
“But right now, I’m wearing this red. And we’re going to come for them this year.”
