    • This shouldn't change anyone's opinion even a little bit.

      • perhaps sign soler instead?

        • I don't want him but it has nothing to do with his performance thus far in winter league.

          • No middle ground allowed, Sandro.

              • They don't allow him to sacrifice to Jobu in the DR

                • Hey bartender! Jobu could use a refill!

I don't buy the 'its a small sample size so we can't evaluate him' argument.

If there's something wrong with his mechanics or his approach or whatever else, you could see it in 15 at bats you don't have to give a guy 200 chances to stink it up.

                      /haven't seen him play.
I don't think 15 plate appearances is ever enough to make a judgment on a player, no matter how bad or good they look.

Remember Boner's first 15 plate appearances with us? He looked like the best player ever!

Dan Uggla would have 3-game stretches in which he looked like he didn't deserve to be above AA.

There's too much that you can't know by looking at 15 plate appearances.

                      • Perhaps limited judgment rather than definitive judgment is alright though. I'm one that has not seen any of the Cespedes at-bats, but the preliminary judgment that the guy can have stretches of looking terrible seems fair. Just like it's fair to watch Uggla during those stretches where he is the worst and to determine that he is capable of being absolutely terrible sometimes. Of course, so is every other player, so it would take watching more Uggla to more accurately state that he is capable of being absolutely terrible for somewhat large stretches multiple times per season.

Really disagree Sandro. You cannot judge a professional hitter on 15 AB's.

                          • He has a point, though. You can't judge someone statistically with a small number of ABs but you can certainly identify any crucial errors that appear in their game physically.

                            • Also disagree. Far too many variables that go into play.

                              • You can judge them on how they look in 15 PAs, but more likely than not, you're going to get an incredibly flawed view of who they are as a player. Because of that, what's the worth in doing so?
