            • Joel Zumaya has a torn UCL. This will be his sixth major injury and could be the nail in the coffin for the 27-year-old.

              5-15 3.80 ERA (27 starts) 149.1IP 173H 63ER 51BB 124K

              • I had never even heard of a torn UCL until now.

Maybe not, but I just feel $100 million for a guy who's had some injuries and has three times posted sub-.800 OPSes in a six-year career is a tad much.

Apparently it's also referred to as the MCL as well.

Wait, how have you never heard of a torn UCL? Tommy John Surgery is UCL reconstruction surgery.

I knew it had to do with the ulnar ligament, but I did not ever hear the abbreviation as "UCL" for some reason.

And the MCL is in the knee.

                    • Sorry, not MCL, but "medial collateral ligament."

When healthy he posted a 7.3 and a 7.2 WAR in back to back years. He put up 4.4 and 5.3 WAR in two of the three years before that as well.

Hmm here's what it says on Wikipedia:

Note that this ligament is also referred to as the medial collateral ligament[1] and should not be confused with the lateral ulnar collateral ligament (LUCL).[2]

Must be in both areas then, because I know for a fact that there is a medial collateral ligament in the knee.

                              That's a fairly big "when."

                              • I mean, you could use the same argument on anyone in the league. There's always going to be health risks but I put my money on him being worth that contract.
