Fair enough, but the $50 mil is a one time investment and has nothing to do with their payroll budgets for years 2-6 of the deal.
That's where it becomes a very nice deal for the Rangers.

Put it this way, I think the Rangers are gonna be HUGH fans of paying Darvish ~$35mil (assuming the yearly contract isn't just a flat 10 mil per) from 2014-16 while the Angels are paying CJ Wilson $54mil

Be interesting to see how the deal is structured, but if you front load the heck out of it (say pay $15/15/9.5/8.5/6.5/5.5) that's a steal because even worst case scenario you at least have a semi-movable asset by the time the experiment needs to "end" AND you can backload a Prince deal as well.
