    The Oakland Athletics fired Bob Geren on Thursday and named Bob Melvin interim manager.

            You guys are right.

            5 years of failure is the same as a week (or I guess a month if you want to extend it that far, as the Marlins weren't really hitting even when they were winning there, for a stretch).

            Also, the hitters on the team seemed to really like Mallee.

            Geren should've been fired awhile back. Not only has he been losing, but his players don't respect him either. It was made clear with the Brian Fuentes situation. On top of that, Huston Street (not even on the team anymore) felt it was necessary to mention that Geren was the worst person he had ever encountered as a baseball player.

            But yeah, this is absolutely the same scenario.
