I've done one before and these were the rules (copied and pasted) Obviously we can change anything we don't like.

Teams: There will be two leagues, an American League and a National League. Each league will have two divisions, the East and the West with five teams per division.

Playoffs: The top two vote getters in each division will advance to the playoffs, with the first seed in the AL East playing the second seed in the AL West and so on. The winners of each divisional series will meet in the ALCS and NLCS, and the winners of those mathcups will meet in the World Series. Winners will be determined by voting on this site and open to the public.

Rosters: Each team will have a 40-man roster and a 25-man active roster. There will be a DH. There will be a hard salary cap of $100 million dollars.

    Roster Moves

Initial Draft: We will have an initial draft (over the next couple of months) to fill each teams 40-man roster. Players will be drafted with their contract situation as of February 27, 2011. If a player does not have a contact as of today he is a Free Agent and may not be drafted.

As of now we are planning on two hour time slots. If you know you wont be able to check the page for a day, please send someone a big board. We will skip picks and these picks can be made up later, but this is not ideal. We will almost certainly not stop the draft, even if skipped picks are building up. Instead we will simply replace owners. If we stop this draft it is very unlikely to start up again.

Rule-4 Draft: Each off-season starting with the off-season following 2011 there will be a Rule-4 draft. The first 12 spots will go to non-playoff teams and the order will be randomized. The next eight spots will go to playoff teams and the order will be randomized. There will be no snake picks. A player is eligible for this draft if he is not rostered and either has not made his Major League debut or made his debut in the previous season.

Free Agency: Each off-season there will also be a free agent signing period. Players who do not have a contract for the following season and do not fall under Rule-4 status will be eligible (so prospects cannot be signed as free agents and neither can most rookies). Players may be offered one, two, three, four, or five year deals. The team who offers the most total money over the lifetime of the deal will win the player. Total salary will be divided evenly throughout the lifetime of the contract. Any players left over from the signing period may be signed throughout the season.

Trades: Trades may be conducted. Pretty standard here. You may not exceed 40 players on your roster or 25 players on your active roster. In the initial draft, draft picks can be traded but you may not exceed 40 picks + players at any time. A trade will not be blocked unless there is evidence of collusion, the trade puts one team in violation of league rules, or it is deemed woefully unfair and detrimental to the league by a 12 of the 18 owners not involved.

All roster moves will be blocked during the voting period. Teams may call up prospects and change their starting lineup/rotation/bullpen between voting periods but not conduct trades, sign free agents, or release players.

Releases: During the off-season, a team may non-tender any player without a guaranteed contract for the up-coming season. These will be players in their arbitration or pre-arbitration seasons that have not been bought out. If you wish to cut a player who has a guaranteed contract his contract will stay on your payroll but his absence will open up a roster spot. In-season all players are considered to have guaranteed contracts for at least that season.

Extensions: During the off-season, a team may extend up to two players on their roster without guaranteed contracts for the up-coming season who have not been previously extended and have never been free agents. You may not have more than four players extended through FFMLB on your roster at any one time. I will borrow the following contract rules from JATW's post in the previous FFMLB thread:

    - if extending during rookie year (less than 1 service time), the salary will be 5 million per year
    - if extending during 2nd year(1.0-1.179 service time), the salary will be 6 million dollars per year
    - if extending during 3rd year (2.0-2.179 service time), the salary will be 7 million dollars per year
    - if extending during 1st arbitration year (3.0-3.179 service time), the salary will be 25% more than their Fangraphs $ value averaged over last 3 seasons
    - if extending during 2nd arbitration year (4.0-4.179 service time), the salary will be 20% more than their Fangraphs $ value averaged over last 3 seasons
    - if extending during final year of arbitration (5.0-5.179 service time), the salary will be 15% more than their Fangraphs $ value averaged over last 3 seasons
Teams may buy-out up to two free agent years. A player cannot be extended twice.

UPDATE: Just to clear things up, extensions may only be used on players still following the .5/.7/.9/35/45/55 contract scale, so if you draft a player in the final year of his contract he must be entering free agency for the first time and not have been extended by his team to be eligible for an extension.

Contracts: As in previous seasons, the contract structure will be determined as follows:

    Less than 1 - 6 year deal - 0.5
    1.0 - 1.179 - 5 year deal - 0.7
    2.0 - 2.179 - 4 year deal - 0.9
    3.0 - 3.179 - 3 year deal - 35% of Fangraphs $ value averaged over last 3 seasons
    4.0 - 4.179 - 2 year deal - 45% of Fangraphs $ value averaged over last 3 seasons
    5.0 - 5.179 - 1 year deal - 55% of Fangraphs $ value averaged over last 3 seasons
A player who has not played in the Major Leagues may be kept off the active roster to delay his service clock. If a player appears on a teams active roster at any point during a given season, he is advanced one year in service time.

All contracts as of today will be considered valid with the exception of one year deals that were renewed this past off-season for pre-arb and arb eligible players. These deals will be determined by the 5/7/9/35/45/55 scale. The source of record for contracts will be Cot's Baseball Contracts.

If I screwed up at all in the above post, missed anything, you have a suggestion, whatever... let me know. Post your concerns in this thread and we can discuss any of the rules above. Please also check in that you are still interested, have read the above rules, and would like to take ____ team.

I'd be down for an a lot simpler version. I'm terrible with contracts and all that jazz.

He was upset by DColts snub that he has gone 4-5 tonight with a HR and 3 RBI.
