There's something missing on the president's schedule today: baseball.
The Washington Nationals open the season today against the Atlanta Braves -- weather permitting; it's chilly and rainy here -- and President Obama is not scheduled to be there as he was a year ago.
Presidents and baseball have long been linked. President William Howard Taft began the tradition of throwing out the first pitch on Opening Day. And the baseball profession has generated one president, former Texas Rangers co-owner George W. Bush.
Of course, these days, Obama has a few things going on: military action in Libya ... a war in Afghanistan ... a nuclear crisis in Japan ... unrest in the Middle East ... a shaky economy at home.
The president also took heat for allowing a broadcast of his picks in the men's and women's college basketball tournaments.
"You know, a lot of folks focused on the fact that I filled out my bracket," Obama told ABC's Diane Sawyer.
So no Opening Day baseball this year -- though we wouldn't be shocked if the president took in a game later in the season.
