I guess we should just sign Pettitte and trade at the deadline.

I wasn't expecting to win the division before this signing, anyway.

      There's still a wildcard.

Regarding the Phillies, that's an awesome rotation. They no longer have to worry about their bullpen because they'll barely need it.

SO this is what the rest of the NBA felt like when LeBron joined the Heat with Bosh and Wade.

I can now fully realize why people got pissed.

Not sure if this is sarcasm, but they are in some trouble now.

Their rotation sucks; Boston has gotten better, and the bottom feeder of the division (Orioles) have also gotten better, so those wins won't be as easy anymore.

Reports say they'll shift their focus to relief pitching now.

That team is going to have some legitimate issues in a few years with payroll.

How much is Lee getting? Just a rough lookover puts their payroll at something like $150 million without Lee.

Personally, I've thought whichever team signed Lee was going to have arguably the worst contract in baseball in a few years. Now, with Lee and Howard, they'll have two. This sucks for us for the near future, but that team will have 4 30+ year olds making like $75 mil combined for the next 3 seasons. It could come apart.

well it's only 5 years for Lee with the Phillies, so that's not nearly as bad as 7

Lee is making 100 million for the next 5 years, according to early reports.
And you bring up a good point.

You play to win the game, they increased their chances of winning those games this year. Deal with the future when the time comes.

I respectfully loathe them and their quality team structure.

I don't hate the Yankees rotation. CC and Hughes should be a nice 1-2, Pettitte is what Pettitte seems to be (assuming he's back) and there's always AJ Burnett being good for 18-20 starts and blowing up for 10.

Besides, that offense is still very good

If I owned a team and my GM said hey I coulda sign Cliff Lee and been awesome, but we might have problems with payroll in 4 years so I didn't..I'd fire him.
