Stephen Strasburg was scratched from his start Tuesday night against the Braves, a move that was announced just five minutes before the start of the game.
Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said Strasburg had had trouble “getting loose” in the bullpen prior to the game, and he made the decision to scratch him as a precautionary measure. Rizzo declined to specify if it was an elbow or shoulder problem, just generalized by saying it was his arm.
Rizzo said Strasburg would be evaluated by team doctors and expected that would include both X-Rays and an MRI.
Long reliever Miguel Batista made the start in Strasburg’s place.
Strasburg has gone 5-2 with a 2.32 ERA in nine major league starts since he burst onto the scene in early June. The rookie phenom was scratched from what would have been his second start against the Braves, who scored four runs on him (three earned) in a 5-0 win on June 28 in Atlanta.Last edited by FishFanInPA; 07-27-2010, 07:40 PM.
