Wouldn't be completely against getting Penny with our need for a starters. Part of his issue is just how bad Boston's defense is. He's still wouldn't be anything particular special but 6 IP of 4.50 ERA baseball would be nice.
So that Smoltz fella is killing it in StL, definitely glad we didn't try to make a waiver move there.
I just can't imagine why we wouldn't make a move for ANY of the veteran pitchers that have been available. Fish have never been hesitant in the past to make a minor move to help the team down the stretch, so wtf gives? They can't possibly think our starting pitching are good enough to overlook a vet.
or they didn't think trading somebody for smoltz was a good idea or taking on his contract and the incentives that come with it and would rather try to get him for the minimum (which from Smoltz they nearly did).
Gotta wonder if maybe he thinks about coming here in the offseason.
my post was about more than smoltz obviously...the team just isn't interested in giving us a fighting chance. But that doesn't even make sense b/c we made the move for NJ
We are 4 games back in the loss column for the Wild Card lead. This is bullshit.
